It really does make sense, but at £200 pound per GPU it's my dudget gone more or less, maybe start with 2 7950s than when I can afford add a third 7950.

Great input, thanks for your time man  Wink

7950 = 600khash for 200 watts.  The 600 is on the low side too.
5870 = 400khash for 200 watts.

7950's are way more energy efficient then a 5870 which will increase your profitability.

Check out dustcoin.com for quick price comparisons.  3 5870's producing 1.2MH/day will only making 1.44ltc/day.  Not sure what you pay for electricity but I pay 15cents and that would only be a $1.61/day profit.

However if you got 3 7950's you would get 1.8MH/day and more then double your daily income and lower your ROI significantly.

I would like to get to get 3 x 7950 but they are still very expensive in comparison with the 5870s and produce the same speed pretty much. I know they are power hungry but sure can't have it all lol

My gaming rig already as a 970 extreme mobo, maybe could give it a go to save a few quid.

Yes the processor is mainly for xpm, currently with my amd 6 core I get about 10 coins per week (pool), but if you take a look at the alternate crypto in this site its like they are becoming fashion again so why not take advantage until they eventually go to gpu miners.

Decisions... decisions... lol

The only reason to get a 8 core processor would be to mine primecoin.  However that is a big variable because the gpu miner for it might just be around the corner.

I am considering a 3 x 5870 mining rig with a 1200wat psu and a 990fx mobo, maybe a 8 core processor to also mine cpu coins.

You could do that if you want to specifically waste power and produce heat.  The 5870 will burn out it's VRMs in no time mining scrypt coins.

Or you could use 3 HD7950 and the cheapest CPU you can find (Sempron X2 190 is the one I'm using on a SABERTOOTH 990FX).

Beginner to mining, but well used to build my own rigs, friends etc..

Objective: Mining Alt coins

So say you have £750 to play with for a alt coin mining rig, what would you go for?

I am considering a 3 x 5870 mining rig with a 1200wat psu and a 990fx mobo, maybe a 8 core processor to also mine cpu coins.

What do you guys think?
