My guess is that it .xyz domains will have good potential. of course not like .com, .net but certainly have future. i think more than som elonger like .online, .mobi, etc..
I have set up a one site with .xyz extension, and after three months i got satisfactory results on many check like alexa rank, site worth..

I think you don't supose to judge a domain with alexa ranking. alexa gives ranks to any shit domains.. I saw so many .tk domains have good alexa ranks.
if he xyz domain compitable with adsense then I consider it a good domain name. adsense only appove top level domains.

If this criterion, on my .xyz domain i have a adsense ads.
but i am not sure for that. My adsense account is 10 years old, and i don't have any problem to put my adsense code at any domain name.

also there are more cheap domains like .info 0.99$

You can try at 1and1 registrar, there you have a lot of discount. .com for $0.99 for new member, $0 - .online.. etc
