Think you can use a gtx 1060 3gb and get high 200s. No one wants em cause they wont be good for ethereum in future.

Id price the length you can use a card into your equation tho.

Out of the nvidia tho I like the 1070 cause of versatility.

The 3GB version of the 1060 is fine for Zcash. The 6GB gets marginally better performance on equihash, definitely not enough alone to justify the price difference.

However, the 6GB version is, as you said, more appropriate for mining Ethereum.

It also holds much hire value for gamers which you will eventually resell to. So in my eyes it is almost always worth it to go for the 6GB version.

R9 390 makes around 400ish, definitely not the best at power efficiency but they are cheaper now and great for heating in the winter.

Maybe the new 1070 Ti could be a good choice if the price is right.

Due to the GPU mining trend, even older used GPUs are ridiculously priced. HD7XXX series or R9 2/3XX are quite efficient for ZCash mining, also it does not require the GPUs to have more than 2gb of ram to function, Ethereum for instance requires 3-4Gb at least.
What I would suggest, check for used GPUs locally, you may find inexperienced users not aware of the GPU mining hype and get a decent HD7XXX series for pretty cheap, compared to eBay and other well-known websites.

Hi,
I have a GTX1070 and mine hush and ZCash using it. Is there a cheaper card with a comparable hash rate?

 Cheaper, yes.

Comparable efficiency AND comparable hashrate AND cheaper, no.

When the current "mining shortage" price gouging dies out, the RX series will return to being a little less expensive on hash/$ (but will lose a little on hash/watt).

Or go with the already mentioned Tahiti-based options if you can find a Tahiti-based card cheap enough.

7950/7870/R9 280/R9 280x are all based on the same Tahiti GPU, the 7850 and R9 280 had a few of the cores disabled usually due to a manufacturing flaw in the chip though on occasion they had a few cores disabled in the BIOS because AMD didn't have enough "flawed" chips and had to use "good" ones.

Good 6gb GTX 1060 will do 300H/s without any tricks and you can find it for $240-280, very low power usage.

7970/280x. As long as your power is cheap those cards will get you~300sol and you can find them for <$180.

They are good cards for ZEC. but not so efficient.

7950/7970/280/280X will get you 270-300 sols....

You can get 7950 for under 100$ and with lower power usage than 280X.

If you can get two RX 570 4 GB cards for $250 or less, you will get ~315-320 H/s on Equihash from each. Not necessarily cheaper, but ~25%+ more hash for the same cost, so a quicker ROI than a single 1070.
