On three occasions I made a market order and the bids/asks backed off just before the order was executed, and I had to pay more or received less. Could you please observe whether you find this behaviour, too? Could that be a mtgox internal bot that takes advantage of the knowledge of incoming market orders?

I won't be surprised! I just don't think those guys can do anything elaborate as they don't shine as engineers!
