With this , I assume we have no winner?
Either way , if bitcoin was going below 100 or worse , that would have been a worthless prize.

Panic or not is another thing. After all it's not panic if you are the first one to leave. And that's what smart people did.
Sheeps on the other hand either hold their coins and prayed to god or sold at 700$ and 600$?.

$600 is where I bought back in.

ETA:  $610 actually.

Let me guess. You sold at 1200 right?  Roll Eyes

I checked, was actually $1,150.  So sue me.

That is just speculation. The fact that the bitcoin address is no longer in a baidu page is a fact.

So panicking about it is pretty premature, isn't it, since all that anyone can say about it amounts to speculation.

China DID NOT BAN BITCOIN. You are right.
BUT BAIDU STOPPED ACCEPTING BITCOINS. If you can't see that there is an issue here then you are a bigger idiot than all of those that think that bitcoin is banned in china. No offence.

I think that has a lot more to do with specific implementation difficulties Baidu was having, and lack of interest among its particular customer base.  These preceded the bank news.

Is this bank stuff an issue?  Of course.  I just don't think it's as much of an issue as you think.

That is just speculation. The fact that the bitcoin address is no longer in a baidu page is a fact.

For a bank to adopt a new technology would mean developing new methods, procedures and IT instruments. These projects can take years to complete properly.

Kids can develop those in their basement in just a few days and bank can't? Don't try to find something else than the obvious reality here.

...uh.. so Baidu announced it self censored to avoid any clashes with the gov't.

Yes it takes banks a lot longer than one single person in his basement (give me some example of kids developing new procedures and IT instruments in their basements.. last guys I knew who did that were Bill Gates and his buddy at apple, by no means were they "kids"). They have regulations, investors, corporate structures and bureaucracy not to mention they try and make money off of you while holding all your money.. I know for a fact that a lot of the systems in Canada for bigger banks are outdated and a lot of work is required by humans to bridge the gap a simple hardware + software upgrade would solve.

All those Chinese companies announcing accepting bitcoins were just for show, nothing more.

It's a good thing they moved away searching for the next eyeball  attracting fad. We need companies with real intention doing business in btc, probably much smaller ones.

I believe banks will adopt crypto currencies but they need time to start and complete the necessary projects to get there. And they need to adhere to the laws if any exist.
If not laws need to be made first, we all know that can take years too.

As you can see alot of work has to be done, decisions to be made, financial structure reform, this doesn't mean the have permanently stopped bitcoin from succeeding it will just take a few years before they can adopt.

BTC's under $400 During the next 14 hours.

I 'm wandering how people choose their random guesses. I mean 14 hours? Why not 13 or 15?

I was in fact thinking about 13 or 15, but ended up in the middle.

Well it seems that you were wrong anyway. Keep on guessing though.

Was everyone really expecting the King of China to declare Bitcoins a national currency? Get a grip folks.

I dont hope any country make Bitcoins a national currency. But banning listing product/service prices in BTC is big punch. Hopefully this can not happen in free countries.

Not even the Great Firewall of China can stop bitcoin, Just because Chinese financial institutions have Supposesdly "banned" bitcoin, doesn't mean that the chinese populous will stop using it, I think the only think that could cause that would be if it became illegal to have bitcoins

CHINA DID NOT BAN BITCOIN, They declaired it as "not a currency" and therefore finnacial instituions in china are Not Allowed to accept it as currency.
Bitcoins ARE NOT illicit/illegal in china in any way shape or form.

Read the headlines carefully "China Bans Financial Companies From Bitcoin Transactions"
Where the HELL does it state that bitcoins are banned?
"the People’s Bank of China said it isn’t a currency with “real meaning” and doesn’t have the same legal status. The public is free to participate in Internet transactions provided they take on the risk themselves, it said. "

Be informed.

China did not ban Bitcoin. Even if China did ban Bitcoin, that action alone is not sufficient enough to determine that a crash will occur.

I guess the current price is just some sort of random coincidence...  Interesting.

I see it more as that Bitcoin has been legitimised in China.
All private persons can trade in Bitcoin and they will educate the populus on how best to invest... good news!

It is neither banned nor legitimised. People's bank of china just tell us that bitcoin should be considered a commodity and not a currency. Nothing more, nothing less.

Everyone relax this is not a ban.  What's interesting here is that the chinese went the opposite route of US and openly banned banks and other official institutions from interfacing with bitcoin where in US there are trusts and other things opening up.  I think this is more China wanting the yaun to be a reserve currency.

RUM AND CARROTS: A PIRATE LIFE FOR ME
China didn't ban bitcoin. I have read all the press releases, all the translations, all the articles. China didn't ban bitcoin.

"China banned bitcoin" is a very general, vague, all-encompassing statement. It implies that, well, China banned bitcoin. It would imply that Bitcoin is wholly illegal in China, much like guns are in jurisdictions where guns are illegal and drugs in jurisdictions where drugs are illegal. Problem? It didn't "ban" bitcoin. It issued regulations including that major financial institutions could not deal in bitcoin. It said that businesses dealing in it would need to follow AML/KYC laws to be put forth in the future. Likely similar to the USA's FINCEN guidance.

But, keep repeating "china bans bitcoin" and maybe 1% of readers will believe you without fact-checking first. I have respect for rational bulls and rational bears alike, but not fud-spewers of either variety. That includes both "2-da-mooners" (on every tiny piece of lukewarm news) and "bitcoin is doomed" on every over-embellished piece of tepid news.

More importantly- bitcoin hasn't crashed in China. It's down a bit, but not more then typical pump/dump trading. Considering they have been up reading this stuff for hours if it really was doom and gloom I would have expected to see something much more dramatic from them. Obviously they don't seem to be overly spooked by this news.

EDIT: after all they have been trading just happily up till now without bank involvement.

Allow me to reiterate:

中国人民银行等五部委发文,要求防范比特币风险。通知明确表示比特币是一种特定的虚拟商品,不具有与货币等同的法律地位,不能且不应作为货币在市场上流通使用。

Translation: The People’s Bank of China has issued a statement requiring guard and wariness regarding Bitcoin’s risk. In a clear notification statement, Bitcoin is a type of particular fictitious and theoretical commodity, not one possessing the status of legal, and moreover cannot act as circulating currency in the market.

This does NOT just apply to financial companies and banks, as is clearly stated from the PBOC development today.
