If it can threaten bitcoin then are the rest of the coins that exist today also in danger? Hope the devs of the newer coins can develop a quantum proof algo.
Chinese dev should have known these after all they are the ones who knew these stuff the first.. devs of Antshare by now has to have this algo.

and faster then speed of light made me laugh

Quantum entanglement is instant, no matter the distance.  So yes, it can be faster than the speed of light.

Quantum computing is still a science finction

No, it's science fact.  They already have quantum computers, but they only operate on a few qubits.  Comparable to the first computers that had a few bytes of memory.

The stronger the processing side becomes the stronger the encryption being applied. Just a reminder that not just Bitcoin will be in danger when quantum computing becomes a reality. There are many

other technologies making use of the same encryption and they will all be in trouble. The solution is stronger encryption, but this comes at a price, because stronger encryption brings other problems.

We will have to sacrifice speed and it will take more resources. At this stage, nothing is developed... so it's not a major threat at the moment... still time for Plan B.  Grin

Quantum computing is still a science finction and i have seen a documentary about quantum computer in that it says even investor will not have any idea on what to do with quantum computer or how to handle them and make output when it will be created in reality. So i think we don't have to worry for next few decades about QC breaking bitcoin network completely.

"will be"
"hope to"
"will develop"
"faster then speed of light"

seems alot of money has been spend on something that is not even created yet.
and faster then speed of light made me laugh

So basically big words. Pretty reassuring, thank you.

it's just still a plan and the development is not going to went smoothly, there's nothing to worry about
just read the topic on the following links here : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/why-is-bitcoin-safe-against-a-quantum-computer-153302 ,it'll definitely answer your question

The first post is interesting. It looks like paper wallets, for example, are pretty safe even from that. Pretty unexpected for me.
I will read all the thread, although it's a lot of politics there Shocked

There is nothing to worry about. Quantum hacks are a science fiction FUD and even then, Bitcoin is already safe against quantum attacks. The big problem would be that the first addresses that never moved may be prone to get hacked in the long long term future, but if they do then oh well, bad luck for satoshi. We can't block the coins or we will see a ETH/ETC type of disaster.

Too many people are watching those addresses. If somebody wants to get rich, he would pick other addresses.
And I fear that this SF is not fiction for much longer...

nothing to worry about. this will take many years before it can threaten bitcoin (if at all) and by then bitcoin will be developed even further, so everything is fine. i would worry about other thing more like the next big hack.

I am not sure what does this mean, but ... should we start to get scared?
Is only a big name or is the quantum computing this much forward?
Will bitcoin become obsolete this soon?

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/aug/16/china-launches-quantum-satellite-for-hack-proof-communications

Very interesting news. But we should not overestimate the abilities. The report states, that the task is to develop quantum encryption. So it's not yet a reality. In addition the results from this research projects are not directly applicable for efficiently cracking Bitcoin's encryption.

Sooner or later, quantum computing will revolutionize the IT world. Current quantum technology is however far from being usable or powerful enough to be a threat for common encryption technologies. If quantum computing becomes a threat, Bitcoin can still switch to another quantum-proof encryption method. So we don't have to be scared.
