I'm not sure that's a good degree to hold by itself. Some kind of specialization atop computer engineering/programming, yes, but knowing everything about blockchain but nothing outside of it seems pretty useless.

They only against bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that they don't control, as we all knew that their government wants to control everything on their country. And their behaviour towards blockchain tech is different from the former, they even built some projects related to blockchain and advancing building blockchain related projects. And making its own cryptocurrency is likely to happen in the future
Do you seriously think that the Chinese government is implementing the blockchain technology and planning to come up with their own version of digital currency to be progressive, they are implementing to have more control over their citizen to monitor each and every transaction.

In short it is their way of having more control over the economy and to monitor every transaction and to have to foothold in the cryptocurrency space.

That is actually a good news. Just one (not so well known university) has decided to bring in a bachelors degree on blockchain. So I guess other universities will follow the footstep and well known universities will also start including blockchain as a recognized field of education.
~snip~
This has a good impact, the crypto industry has opened the minds of developed world countries. Awareness of the benefits and the future through technological changes in the era of cryptography is something that is very much needed. As a big country and the resources are there, I think this is normal. China and several countries have realized this opportunity so they opened up education about blockchain. I hope that there will be a fundamental impact on the development of bitcoin in the future.

But there are rumors before that China is against the use of Bitcoin and they want to create their own, and right now I'm not updated about it if it is true.

Their government is against it and they want to make one where people will invest to it and it will grow their economy which is a good move if many people invest on it. A country who engaged in Blockchain Technology will really achieve faster and immediate development in their economy and businesses that will help them to grow more as nation.

This just means that china is serious and really interested in the blockchain technology and want to apply to its people. This is a bold move, after all, china always leads when it comes to technology, it only matters of how it will be used by their government.

According to a March 4 report by ChinaNews, the second-largest state-owned news agency in China, Chengdu Information Engineering University will offer majors in Blockchain Engineering alongside other tech-based degrees in 2020.

Its what had been said so in some news. If they didn't go beyond communism, they wouldn't have the wealth they now enjoy.

Decades of becoming a communist, now had become one of the progressive country that they patented thousands of blockchain of god knows what ever that is. Their government found out the first that its useful to survey their people using blockchain.

This is a very serious step for the development of cryptocurrency in this country, and I believe that other countries should also train specialists in the field of blockchain, since digital technologies are our future and the more seriously our government takes new technologies, the faster our society will develop

Since the government and Chinese ministry of education has approved this, the universities will add it as soon as possible. At this least this shows that China is serious about blockchain and might want to one day dominate this field.

Why is the scientific specialization of the certificate in engineering aspects?software or computer engineering? I used to think that Blockchain is more related/linked to economic aspects and has more benefits for financial systems compared to engineering development?
Even I have seen many scientific courses that link Blockchain and financial aspects, or it is about algorithms and programming languages?
In general, the trend is good, it seems that the job market has forced universities to add more relatively modern engineering sciences.
This niche does cover quite a broad aspect, I mean it can be connected anywhere depending on which scientific side you want to specify. From the engineering side, it could be about ways to manage the blockchain, and later it can be linked to economic education for its application.

This is an effective step, especially since China has a large population and is quite influential in the crypto world. IMO, it looks like this will soon be followed by other institutions.

This is a great step if blockchain technology is adopted in the future. Doing this, China would train so many of their youths to understand blockchain technology and also come up with blockchain startups. I hope other countries especially, African countries would take advantage of this emerging industry and train their youths. This would go a long way to increase the economic growth of the country as most of the African country is youthfully populated.

I have no doubt what the Chinese universities and experts can teach to their students. They have all the resources to support their endeavor. But, like you, I am looking at the how more, I am giving weight on how the government will make use of a very promising technology. As with most technologies, they are good, but it really depends on the objectives with which these technologies are being used.

Not your keys, not your coins!
With the massive expansion of Covid-19, all branches of economy will be affected, in China mainland and outside it, around the globe. All of their plans for blockchain industry will be affected too. And there are other universities around the world have Blockchain courses and degree, not only China.

China is a big nation, and their locals invented many things for the world, over many centuries but to say only China will change the blockchain industry, I don't believe it. The appearance of China and their policy changes on blockchain industry is good, but don't overoptimistic about their effects.

Once this gets trickled down to a more mainstream Mandarin-speaking and teaching institution, it's gonna be big. Always curious actually how they teach since I don't understand the curriculum and it's not typically found online, and how it compares to upcoming Russian curricula, or existing ones like the University of Nicosia benchmark.

They have been interested in blockchain technology for a long time. But yes, this time looks more serious and appreciative to the people who work in blockchain technology. I assume it is a good sign that China has a great intention to support blockchain technology, possibly to Bitcoin and crypto as well. Well, let's hope this will trigger good moves in blockchain, crypto, and Bitcoin adoption.

China wants to use the technology to their people and most probably to control more of their people and their wealth. Its very ironic to see a communist country encourage blockchain which we usually use for decentralization.

China were already cashless though so for the most part blockchain is what they would need than anything else to support their growing economy.

That’s really good. But I was thinking that Blockchain would be another topic that is covered by a computer science degree. That way students that goes to college to study Computer Science would be thought everything altogether, it shouldn’t be a separate degree.

Though I’m saying this because I don’t really see much that could be thought in Blockchain, just like programming, because programming is also a short topic that’s covered by computer science and Blockchain would probably be under programming I guess. I still stand to be corrected, I don’t know if I’m right or not , I am not a computer Engineer, so I’m saying this based on the little knowledge I have about this.

And to that point, it seems that China is now looking at the opportunity where their people can benefit from this. The Chinese government has also realized that they have to adopt this new technology as one thing that could help them to grow and been in the market competition where the other developing countries have it already.

And I hope this could help to end the declining sentiment that we have today and change its direction. China banning before has a huge effect (negatively) and their coming back will surely have a positive impact.

It's pretty obvious, China triples US in blockchain patent filings. So they really wanted to be in the forefront of this technology and to lead the way by offering this so called blockchain courses and offer it as a bachelors degree.

However, China is not known for being a IT source, probably because of the language barriers. Would love to see countries like India and Philippines to be the blockchain hub.

Nothing lasts forever
It's really good to know that there is at least one university has an official degree for the blockchain technology.
Though there are several sites that offer online certifications there is hardly any university which actually offers a degree for blockchain.
I hope many other universities get inspired from this and start offering degrees for the blockchain technology.

This is very much expected, China is big on technology innovation and always try to be the leader. The country is always promoting technology as they have done with 5G and AI

China was a leader at stealing US innovations and technology(they still are). Now,they are trying to be a leader in the field of technology innovations. They have the human resources-lots of hard working, willing to learn, goal driven and disciplined people,so they will succeed,I guess. Grin
I assume that the Chinese want to prepare more programmers and blockchain developers for their central bank coin project. They aren't interested in Bitcoin and altcoins, which doesn't make me an optimist for this news.

China's university's are not vary world-famed. The few Chinese professors that were forward looking left early and aren't speaking very fondly of China's govt grip on power. I guess not many people would want a bachelor for blockchain in China. It would probably not even mention BTC in favor of some cryptocurrency created by Chinese government and that is centralized like NEO.

There are European universities offering unergrad and master level courses on the topic of blockchain since long ago too.

I hope other countries will also do this.

While it's cool that at least someone offers this, it's sad that it's not a good university. China's a powerful country, and they have high-quality higher education. But this university is such a no-name that it's even hard to find any info about it online.

The key here is that the Minister of Education approved it. It is just a start. If it becomes successful, bigger and better universities may also offer it. And it also shows how open China has become in accepting Blockchain solutions. This move will have a great impact on the future of blockchain not only in China but the whole world.

But it seems suspicious in any case that Google confuses it with other facilities, the website seems to be offline (if CUIT is the one), and a Wikipedia page (if, again, it's the same university, and I am not sure of that) says that this facility's known for an incident of promoting cruel behavior with animals for the sake of research. I also cannot find this news on any reputable news portals...
Seems like China is really into blockchain technology and I admire them for doing that, They always impress me with the steps they are taking for the innovation.

I disagree on you for calling the said University "no-name university",I find it rude for calling an institution in that way. Upon visiting the reference link, it is CUIT that has been offering this and I can say that the University's achievement is great with technological stuffs although it is provincial University. But the animal cruel history on the university is also at large, however that is too far from main thing.

The Chinese Ministry of Education has approved the first blockchain engineering degree in the country, the title will be at the Chengdu Information Engineering University which opened the Blockchain Engineering major and other related technologies in 2020.

Students who want to get the degree must understand the basics of blockchain, in addition to the practical application of technology related to blockchain, and so on.

Blockchain engineering majors and undergraduate degrees are given, apparently created to meet the increasing demand for blockchain schools in China, especially according to Linkedin this year blockchain is one of the most needed skills.

Students who majored in this will gain an understanding of the basic theories behind blockchain technology, learn how they are designed and developed, and learn how they can be implemented.

Although the full course structure and syllabus has not yet been released, it seems that the course is designed to prepare students to design and implement blockchain solutions and manage their own projects. Students can register for courses later this year, although there is no clear time when the course will begin.

The Blockchain Department is China President's Encouragement?
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced plans to improve the development of blockchain and education in China to position the country as a world leader in this field.

Although several universities in China already offer graduate programs around blockchain technology, the introduction of undergraduate programs will help younger students understand the blockchain more quickly and encourage the development of this technology.

Thus, China can soon find itself with a group of young blockchain developers, who understand blockchain will be ready to help China become the leading country in blockchain technology.

As Coin Investment has reported, China is a country that has quite a large blockchain investment, besides that this country also relies on the blockchain as a "weapon" in the trade war with the United States.

The presence of the blockchain majors is one of the proofs that this country is serious about supporting and developing the blockchain as an asset that will benefit the country.
