I think until he is six you can stay on Rural area. After six I think it would be better to shift on city area.

It really depends. Personally, I prefer a rural lifestyle. I live in a rather small "town" of ~8000 people. It's actually the largest town for 30+ miles.

Normally, rural areas have lower crime rates. Cities tend to be more dangerous for children as well. Living in a larger city will create a more diverse environment for your child. For example, the demographics where I live are astounding. Over 95% of the population identify as being white. We have literally 13-15 black people in our entire town. That's it. (I believe it's only 4 families). During highschool, we had a single black kid in the ENTIRE highschool. Literally, just one.

But it really does depend on the area, I suppose.

I say city, and if you have money you can buy a small house on country side and spend the weekends and holidays there. This is how i do, the only difference is that my wife's parents own a house on the country....so my kid spends all his summer holidays there.

They both provide different opportunities.

Rural

Pros:
Fresh air
Lots of space to move around in
A relaxing atmousphere

Cons:
Solitude is only nice until it starts to drive you mad.
The fact that there's so much space means that there are less people to chum around with.

City

Pros:
Lots of people and various cultural opportunities

Cons:
Not much space to move around in
Smog ridden
Fights break out from the vast differences in all of the types of people there
Gangs might be an issue
The city doesn't look that pleasant to some people

Then there's the third option.

Suburbs

Best of both worlds without the cons of either of them.

My choice would have to be the suburbs.

I like to live in a rural area but it also must be near the city. We need to enjoy the advantages of the two areas.

Rural is a dream, so bucolic, the cows, the fresh air... But, isn't it too limiting? I mean, in a city there are far more, and far better, opportunities: best schools, various courses, activities, leisure, cultural, etc. So much to live, so much to learn.

What great things your kid can learn by living in a rural area? Lot's of great things, sure. But it would take a couple of holidays to learn and to know "everything" useful from a rural environment.

So, I'd prefer living in a big city, and spending holidays on rural areas.

You go where you find ways to get money.

Most people don't have such choices cause of this

This, too, is important.

I am a new father and thinking.... Where should I raise my kid. In a rural area where he can breathe fresh air, play with rural kids or in a city like Sydney (I currently live here).
If you want to move to the country or small town do your homework carefully. A good area or town can be very close to a dysfunctional one. If you move to a rural area be ready to be looked at as an "outsider." The availability of phone service or internet can be spotty ,slow or expensive. Build a nice house and someone can buy the land next to you and move in a crappy old trailer. It can be a long drive to work unless you work from home or are retired. I have experienced or know folks who experienced all these things.
