Well, that did not last long!  Sad

After -strap 3 had slightly-increased the speed of my 1080 GPUs, I installed McAfee, for dealing with another issue. Yet, the McAfee treated my claymore as a virus and stopped it, from working.

So, then I removed the McAfee.

Yet, my 1080s are back to their old speed - despite "- strap 3".

Conclusion: I think "- strap 3" represents old tech that has, gradually, been phased out.

That would conform with, apparent - but non-fatal - error messages I was receiving during my brief stint, with "- strap 3".  Undecided

Why not with a 1080 a Etherpill? you have GDDR5x?

Hey black1ight!

After a lot of though, I finally tried -strap 3 and I am pleased!  Cheesy

Although it only applied to my 1080 GPUs (2), it still increase my overall speed, by a noticeable degree! (11.37440758293839%)

I know that's not a big increase, but, in my view, it still represents worthwhile progress! (It all adds up & it's better than nothing!)

So, thanx!  Wink

Incidentally, in addition to the -strap 3, during the next experiment, I added -strap 5, but that actually slowed down my rig. The rig was still going faster than originally, but slower than if I just used the -strap 3, by itself.

So, I removed the -strap 5 and just went back to -strap 3.

Again, thanx  Wink

Did you read Claymore´s readme file?. Well, anyway

-strap
applies specified memory timings (strap). This option is available for Windows only and requires AMD blockchain drivers or drivers 18.x or newer (most tests were performed on 19.4.3) for AMD cards, any recent Nvidia drivers for Nvidia cards.

Currently Polaris, Vega and Nvidia 10xx cards are supported, support for other cards will be added later.
Miner has built-in straps database, all straps are separated by memory (4GB or 8GB) and memory type (Samsung, Elpida, Hynix, Micron).

Also I think this improves only a little Nvidia cards. 20% gain is only for AMD Cards.

Hope this helps you.

GPU-Z is a neat program!  Wink

The short answer is that everything is Micron.

Specifically, though:

- the 2 GeForce GTX 1080 GPUs have: Memory Type = GDDR5X (Micron); and,

- the other GeForce RTX 2060 GPUs have: Memory Type = GDDR6 (Micron).

The command line in my start.bat file is:

EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool eth-eu1.nanopool.org:9999 -ewal account # -epsw x -eworker rig1

(NOTICE THAT I REMOVED MY ACTUAL ACCOUNT #.)

Also, I am assuming that it is the correct file, since I do not look at it, much, and there have been a few versions of Claymore.

So, what straps should I use and where should I insert them?

Please reply.

Use gpuz or similar program to know what brand memory the gpus have , then use

Strap 1 - hynix
Strap 2 - Samsung
Strap 3 - Micron / Elpida

Depending on lottery
Strap 4 - Hynix
Strap 5 - Samsung / Micron / Elpida
Strap 6 - worked with micron and elpida

The straps is only available for certain GPUs. Which GPU do you have exactly?

It was mostly towards the RX AMD GPU series because the way the stock straps are written they aren't optimized for mining ETH just gaming. Hence what people did was they manually copied the 1500Mhz (if I recall) to the rest of the upper straps and they were able to set their memory clock to 2000Mhz and go from 22MH/s to 30MH/s.

All you do is set
-strap 1

And then you increase your memory clock to like 1950-2000Mhz and it should work. You can also downvolt to save some wattage.

OS = Win 10
Claymore = v. 15.0

Sorry, if I posted this in the wrong place.

According to the related text, including "straps", somewhere in the .bat file, might increase gpu speed, up to 20%

Implicit, too, is that a separate "strap" entry can be made per gpu.

Well, my rig has 8 - of varying types.

I would like to get the extra 20% speed, but I don't know how.

So, does anyone know how I should incorporate the "straps" thingy?

Please reply.
