I bought 4 x 5830's from EPiSKiNG:

1) He sent them out within a few hours after I paid him cash.
2) The cards were packed in their original boxes with original accessories and manual.
3) There was slight dust on the cards that was easily removed with compressed air.

Overall, I was very satisfied, the cards were in great condition, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy other used parts from him.

How should I be taking care of my hardware?

I apologize that I came out strong.

Try not to be accident proned. Hardware will last longer if it is kept clean. I could only imagine what the temps were with all that dust.

Air cans will burn your wallet.

Air compressor will do, if you have one, use low pressure.

and then

I'm more amazed at how much dust is on that stuff. The one fan is completely blocked! (think it's the CPU fan)

I was deciding to go for a vid card. Clearly shows he does not know how to take care of his hardware.

You can replace the fans on the MSI with these. 2 pins, but should plug into the 4 pin connector or possibly spliceable.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835119133

MSI will also replace cards with broken fans under warranty.

If you still have the fins, they can also be superglued back on.

Guessing he smokes?

No cigarette smoke, but there may have been other smoke occurring!  l-)

I'm pretty interested in them. Would you take $125?

How are you using the 5870s if their fans are dead? Or have you stopped using them?

The dead fan cards I will sell for $175.  They work great and are overclockable to 975 core.

-EP

Would you be willing to do $150? I'd be willing to buy two of them if so if you're up for volume discounts.

For the Sapphire and Diamond 5870 with dead fans, I'll take $350 shipped.

Was looking like I wanted one or more of these...then I saw the pics with the cards and mobos laying on top of static bags. AS bags are conductive on the outside. If any of the solder joints from a capacitor with juice still left in it makes contact with the bag and thus another point on the board...well you get the idea.

This is true. Low probability but i have seen a mobo fail while lying on an anti static bag before. Of course this was 2002ish.

Would i get a dust discount? Smiley

How about you make an offer before asking for a discount....

They've all been running like champs.  Haven't had any problems.  Don't know what to tell you.

holy crap how did you manage to burn out that hdmi port!?

Dropped the card one time and I'm pretty sure it caused some sort of short... Was running just fine doing mining, then wanted to watch a movie on my plasma TV.  Plugged the HDMI cable into the TV, then as soon as I touched the other end to the card, it sparked quite a bit, burnt both ends of the cable and killed my TV. (which i later called Panasonic and got a free warranty replacement).

It was nuts...

any chance you can take a pic of the 5870 with dead fans and how u cooling them?

They are currently out of my systems.  The Diamond wont spin freely, so it heats up very quickly but still boots just fine.  The Sapphire spins but is loud and doesn't cool well, and the MSI Twin Frozr II has 2 blades broken off one of the fans... I was mining with it still, but the temps got pretty warm, making my room quite hot.

I also have a reference 5870 with a Accelero Twin Turbo Pro on it, but I ran an HDMI cable to my TV and got some serious fireworks, so it's deader than a doornail.

I have several 5870 and 5830 for sale that are working great.  It's too hot here in Bakersfield, Ca. to mine anymore, so I'm out...  Additionally, I have 3x5870 that work great but the fans are dead (make me an offer on these).

Asking $225 for each 5870 and $125 for each 5830.  Also have 2 5970 that I'll sell for $450 each.  Additionally, I have several 1000-1200w Corsair and Cooler Master PSUs that I'm willing to take offers on.

E-mail me at [email protected] or call/text me at 661.472.8378.  I have bought and sold on here before as well as on IRC.  Ebay Profile is under EPiSKiNG also.

I would be interested in the PSUs actually, can tell me :

1.What you have ?

2.The age of the PSUs in question ?

3.Under what conditions were they used if it all ?

4.Are they still under warranty ?

Thanks

Heh, if it was like my old gigabyte card (before I RMA'd it), I just took the fan out, then ziptied a high CFM 80mm fan to it.
