So if your budget is 50K and you have the other parts (PSU, RAM, processor) and you plan on buying only one GPU for the single PCIe(16 lane) slot, then go with the 290x. But if you do not have the other parts or if you already have a motherboard with 2 PCIe slots then go with the 280x.

can somebody tell me which graphic card is better, the r9 290 or r9290x n which one will give good speed.  i can only buy one as my budget is Rs. 50000/- only.

https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

Instead of 290, better go for 280X , you will get 2 cards in that budget

Whoa thats a nice and clean setup Benson .... I was trying to imagine one with milk crates Tongue (as in most online videos). Seems pretty neat .. are those 2 gpus ? and how much was the investment (if you feel its ok to tell).

Yeah, we did 2 of these rigs with 2 GPU's each. Not sure how much they set my client back by, but it was pure overkill, 15K coolermaster cabinet et al.

Nice  ... i just cant seem to get ahold of cards giving more than 700 khps .. all seem to be out of stock ... just out of curiosity did your client purchase it in mumbai or was it from elsewhere ?

Purchased the last few left in stock from Mumbai.

buy two R9 280x rather than a single R9 290x, they will give more speed.
Hey Equate,
Ah thanks for the suggestion, but if I am correct then the r9 280x would cost at about 25-26K INR and would give me around 730 khps .. whereas a 290x would give me around 960 (says 990 in the ltc harware comparison) ... so just buying 2xr9 280s would kinda exceed my initial limit of 50K INR just with the cards itself ... plus I would need to spend some on the mobo, power supply and processor too.

Are you using any of those cards ? What was the initial investment like to get it done ?

well 2x 280x will give you 1400mh/s while 290x will give 960mh/s alos 290x is 45-48k while 280x single cost is 24k if you purchase sapphire one , while the other brand cards are high price than sapphire.choice is yours you want to use a single 290x or 280x x2.

Yea I relised it makes more sense ... i was being told that r9 290x was about 34K thats why the silly plan .... but apparently 280x sapphire is unavailable too :-(

Life just sucks been about 4 days just trying to get a card ... killing the enthusiasm

You also need to keep in mind that scrypt ASIC miners are round the corner, so do not spend more than needed until you get it.

Here is an image of a miner setup in Mumbai.

Hey all,

I need some advice about setting up a rig for mining scrypt coins ... so far have looked into  GPUs like 7950 (but those are currently out of stock.. pm me if anyone willing to sell), R9 290s (but they seem to be expensive to begin with).

Also need advice on CPU, Motherboard and miscellaneous stuff like power supply,pci1x16 cables (which are currently not available in mumbai ,which is where I am located ).

All suggestions welcome.

Budget approx 50,000 INR (but can be extended by sacrificing a BTC on localbitcoins)

Cheers

7950 are pretty awesome. Try to get your hands on them.
Do not get the 7970, they are a nightmare to configure.

Hey Benson,

Thanks for the reply. Tried today but they are apparently saying that its out of stock at lamington and wont be available anytime soon. For now maybe will have to do with R9 290x sapphire. Gosh its gonna burn a hole in my pocket !!
