To win convictions, prosecutors must get inside heads of Baltimore officers

Prosecutors seeking to convict six Baltimore officers in the death of a young black man severely injured while in police custody will focus not on what the officers did but on what they allegedly failed to do: provide medical attention to 25-year-old Freddie Gray inside a police van on April 12.

That will require prosecutors and jurors to get inside the heads of the officers to determine whether they willfully ignored what a prosecutor said was Gray’s increasingly frantic pleas for medical help during a 44-minute ride in the van.

Unlike police abuse cases in which officers are charged with a physical act, such as beating or shooting a suspect, the Gray case involves evaluating the subjective performance of police duties. Prosecutors will have to convince jurors that the officers showed a conscious disregard for human life, said Laurie Levenson, a former federal prosecutor.

{tinfoil hat ON}

What if this crazy statement by this AG was meant to ultimately fail in purpose, ending up with a relaxed verdict? Chaos would ensure, then chaos would be pushed in every state. The centralization of power at any cost lovers will cry for ultimate surrender of state rights and push harder for the police, each and every one of them to be federalized... For the children, of course. Did she pretty much say "I hear you loud and clear! No justice no peace"?

This is exactly why I think people like this who go out of control in protests are just violent thugs, these are the people they end up affecting who would otherwise be on their side and they simply don't give a shit, because they think they'll get somewhere attacking defenceless people who have nothing to do with their situation.

A true Anarchist would never harm the defenceless or fellow workers out of spite and jealousy, show some balls and pick a fight with the cops if you really want a revolution instead of targeting people who can't fight back.

Really positive to see some free-thinking people around here in this day and age where so many buy into the b.s. fed to them by the powers-that-be - if they aren't orchestrating it, they're exploiting it, further tightening the noose around us in the US and sadly, the average person eats it up, happily giving away their freedoms for so-called "security". I really don't want to think what the US will look like in another 5 years with the usual suspects guiding the rudder.

All of this anti-police media hype is about selling federalized police to the nation. Don't fall for it. Just imagine every police officer nation wide also as a ATF/DEA/DHS/FBI/EPA/IRS/FCC agent. State laws will instantly become meaningless and federal law will be the only law enforced. This is nothing short of a coup d'etat.
Brilliant comments. The media and their masters are exploiting this situation yet again to show some of the inner city folks (viewed negatively by  your average white person) to being what they're showing themselves to be. Others are seeing the violence/looting and then siding w/ the cops since the selective media narrative is doing the job well despite so many peaceful, interested neighbors/protesters. Make the police look good to the majority even tho, at times, they're downright terrible. Lastly, thru making the police look deviant it opens them up and the public for federal review/takeover and all is taken care of.

Prisoner in van said Freddie Gray was ‘banging against the walls’ during ride

A prisoner sharing a police transport van with Freddie Gray told investigators that he could hear Gray “banging against the walls” of the vehicle and believed that he “was intentionally trying to injure himself,” according to an investigative document obtained by The Washington Post.

The prisoner, who is currently in jail, was separated from Gray by a metal partition and could not see him. His statement is contained in an application for a search warrant, which is sealed by the court. The Post was given the document under the condition that the prisoner not be named because the person who provided it feared for the inmate’s safety.

The document, written by a Baltimore police investigator, offers the first glimpse of what might have happened inside the van. It is not clear whether any additional evidence backs up the prisoner’s version.

Attorneys Representing Arrested Rioters Say Bail Too High

BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) — Attorneys are challenging the arrest of over 230 people during this week’s violence and looting.
Governor Larry Hogan has temporarily suspended a rule, requiring suspects be presented to a judicial office promptly.

Many people, attorneys argue, have been held for more than 24 hours without being notified of any charges against them.
Attorneys are challenging the governor’s authority to suspend this rule.

They are also frustrated that suspects are being assigned bail they believe is exorbitant.
Many of those charged can’t pay it, and may spend months in jail awaiting trial.

I feel sorry for the good people that don't have the means to move away from these inner city neighborhoods. Far too many single women throughout the last few decades have been having kids and there's not responsible father figure to keep these kids straight. So, you housing projects and neighbors filled w/ free wheeling kids running free and having more kids and many of them turn to dealing drugs and then this is what you get: a cesspool. They have no virtues, ethics nor care for human life or being an upstanding local resident. Most of these folks have nothing to look forward to nor any meaningful work to keep them aspiring in life. There's just so many things that are wrong it's sickening. Perhaps businesses will say F it and think it isn't worth it providing goods and services to a community that is packed w/ animals and this will make life worse for those that are decent folks.

Was this man interviewed by CNN? I may have missed it...

Looting and destruction plagued the city of Baltimore on Monday, prompting showdowns with police and raging fires in buildings citywide.

After embers from a nearby fire floated into his home, Baltimore resident Edward Murray, who has lived in the city for 62 years, was forced to evacuate.

IJReview spoke with Murray after his family was allowed back in their home. Dimly lit, with water dripping from every corner and an overwhelming smell of smoke, the home was in disarray from the catastrophic fire that torched the building’s second floor.

In an exclusive interview, Murray condemned the violence and delivered a message from Baltimore residents to the world:
“Why burn down your neighborhood when you’re supposed to take care of your neighborhood?

Now I ain’t got a place to live … I lost my stuff. My wife is in the hospital. I don’t know how they did it, or why they did it.

Stop thinking black people are violent and destructive, because we not. What’s going on out here is not what God wants. It’s people that don’t care about the city, only care for what they’re doing, is what is happening.

This community was rising. This community was about to thrive again. We want the world to understand that we don’t condone this.”

EXCLUSIVE: DR. ALVEDA KING ON BALTIMORE RIOTS: MLK JR. WOULD ‘BE HEARTBROKEN’

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Dr. Alveda King, niece of the great civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., said if he saw these Baltimore riots, “he’d be heartbroken, I am.”

High school students stormed the street in protests and riots Monday afternoon, throwing rocks at police officers.

The protests come on the same day as Freddie Gray’s funeral. He died earlier this month while in police custody.

“As I watched the protest, I’m reminded of several years ago… I was part of the first children’s march in Birmingham, Alabama,” King told Breitbart News. She added that those protests were peaceful and supervised.

“These children are not supervised—they are angry,” she said.

My thoughts are that Dr. King would totally look down on what is going on in Baltimore these days where the bums take over and make shadows out of the peaceful types. Lord knows that Mr. Gray's memory is totally forgotten and not taken into consideration besides hate and malfeasance.

Leader of Baltimore Riots Identified ?

Major news media outlets have failed to report one of the main leaders of the “splinter group” of Baltimore protesters who turned violent is a notorious racist and the former national chairman of the New Black Panther Party, WND has found.

The New York Times, the Associated Press, the New York Daily News, CBS local and other news media outlets all name Malik Shabazz as a leader of the breakaway, chaotic protests. Yet each of these news outlets only identify Shabazz only as “president of Black Lawyers for Justice.”

The AP reported: “One of the protest’s organizers, Malik Shabazz, the president of Black Lawyers for Justice, said the crowd exceeded their expectations, adding that protesters’ anger is not surprising.

“‘This is a problem that has not been solved,’ he said. ‘When there’s no justice, they tend to want to take matters into their own hands.’”

Like the reporting you see here? Sign up for free news alerts from WND.com, America’s independent news network.

Reported the New York Times on the Baltimore riots: “There, Malik Shabazz, president of Black Lawyers for Justice, a Washington, D.C.-based group that called for the demonstration and advertised it on social media, told the crowd that he would release them in an hour, adding: ‘Shut it down if you want to! Shut it down!’

“Mr. Shabazz said in a later interview that his rhetoric was intended only to encourage civil disobedience – not violence – but added that he was ‘not surprised’ by the scattered angry outbursts because people here ‘haven’t received justice.’”

The New York Daily News informed its readers: “‘Things will change on Saturday, and the struggle will be amplified,’ said Malik Shabazz of Black Lawyers for Justice. ‘It cannot be business as usual with that man’s spine broken, with his back broken, with no justice on the scene.’

CBS Local featured a photo of Shabazz leading protest chants in Baltimore yesterday, with a caption that identified the radical simply as “Attorney Malik Shabazz.”

Ben Swann: The Powerful Baltimore Protest on Monday That Media Ignored

Baltimore, MD- It is the scene that most media is ignoring. While the wall-to-wall focus of national media on Baltimore is on the rioting and violent imagery, most media ignored the growing crowds calling for an end to the violence and demanding that young people stop burning buildings and looting stores. Over 100 clergy marched through the streets of Baltimore last night in an effort to end the violence, and they did it without riot shields and military vehicles.

As over 5,000 law enforcement officials are converging on Baltimore as well as another 5,000 National Guard troops, the nation continues to watch the city that exploded with violent riots on Monday. Images of a CVS looted and burning, buildings set ablaze, juveniles in the streets who have thrown rocks at police. These are the images that most of the nation will associate with Baltimore, and yet most media has all but ignored more than a week of peaceful protests demanding answers into the death of Freddie Gray.

CNN Anchor on Baltimore Riots: Some Veterans Are Coming Home 'Ready to do Battle'

After more than a year of CNN pouring gasoline all over America with hysterical, and oftentimes phony, stories of American racism, the left-wing network’s afternoon anchor Brooke Baldwin finally took it to the next level by blaming American veterans for the Baltimore riots.

In a pathetic suck-up interview with Democrat Congressman Elijah Cummins, Baldwin never once had the moral courage to ask the failed Baltimore City congressman if the left-wing policies ushered in by a half-century of a Democrat monopoly in Baltimore might have something to do with the city’s ills. Instead, she said of young military veterans who become police officers, “I love our nation’s veterans, but some of them are coming back from war, they don’t know the communities, and they are ready to do battle.”

The context was a discussion about increased training and retraining for the Baltimore police.

There’s no question Baldwin is hoping to launch a narrative with that smear.

This is pure CNN; throwing out anti-science smears towards the best people this country has to offer while it is in reality the rioters who are “doing battle.” It is savages who are looting and burning and causing anarchy, not the police. But it is the Baltimore police who have 15 wounded among their ranks. It is the Baltimore police who calmly did not do much battle during Monday night’s riots.

Baldwin and CNN just can’t help themselves. This is a cable news network that relentlessly launches Hate Campaigns to smear decent people,  like Christians, as a way to deflect from the evils done by the Gaystapo and the thugs who are tearing down predominantly black, working class cities like Ferguson and Baltimore.

Essentially, what Baldwin said to the world was, “Don’t hire veterans! They’re too damaged to be trusted with authority.” We’re back to the Vietnam-era where leftists smear our heroes to cover up the real problems. CNN wants us to believe unstable veterans are the problem in Baltimore, not unstable families.

But she loves veterans.

Wine and live television tend to reveal just how ugly some people really are.

When Washington fiddled while Baltimore burned

[...]
“Officials said 31 adults and four juveniles were arrested, and six police officers were hurt after several storefronts were vandalized and other properties were damaged in the waning hours of the Freddie Gray demonstrations,” WBAL reported.

Shockingly, the violence and property destruction was apparently condoned by the city’s mayor. “It’s a very delicate balancing act,” said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “Because while we try to make sure that they were protected from the cars and other things that were going on, we also gave those who wished to destroy space to do that as well.”

It was an episode begging for media coverage. Recall how not merely reporters but flagship cable news anchors descended on Ferguson, Missouri, when anti-law enforcement demonstrations broke out there in August and again in November of last year. Remember how journalists like CNN’s Don Lemon embedded himself within a group of protesters and feigned effrontery when he was pushed back by riot police along with those protesters with whom he had aligned himself. Recount how MSNBC’s Chris Hayes was positioned so close to the violence that he was targeted by rock-throwing demonstrators.

It was not merely Ferguson where reporters fought for a front-row seat to the violence. Following a New York City grand jury’s decision not to indict the officer responsible for the death of Eric Garner, the journalistic establishment didn’t have to go very far to amplify the ensuing demonstrations beyond their reasonable proportion. When demonstrators were inexplicably allowed by that city’s sympathetic mayor to barricade the West Side Highway in protest, the news media was right there beside them.

So, where were the cable networks on Saturday night as Baltimore was rocked by violence? Telling their viewers to go to Twitter if they wanted to read the news.

“This is always about choices, right? I mean you know, you have to make a decision, what are you gonna do with this two hours of time. And we, you know, CNN made its decisions, and is sticking to its plan and so forth,” CNN political correspondent Errol Louis told the network’s viewers remorselessly.

He added that those anxious viewers will “find out all about what happened in the streets of Baltimore by this time tomorrow.” Have some patience, or go “find a live feed somewhere.”

“CNN was covering the WHCD and MSNBC was covering the WHCD and Fox was showing some already-taped crap,” The Washington Free Beacon’s Sonny Bunch noted before observing that those who attended the baseball game at Camden Yards were held in place as the violence escalated outside the stadium. “And it’s a perfect example of why the rest of the country is so sick of Washington, so hateful toward the press corps.”

The press has demonstrated a ravenous hunger for news stories involving young, disaffected, primarily African-American men lashing out violently at the police. They have shown a willingness to devote hours if not whole days to covering similar events. Editors have assigned reporters and flagship talent alike to travel great distances in order to cover those stories. But when one is occurring in the Beltway media’s backyard, they simply ignore it because it conflicts with the night in which they finally get their due.

That editorial instinct, one shared by virtually every media outlet, reflects a toxic level of self-veneration and an ugly disdain for the public this institution supposedly serves.

In the words of the mollycoddled student editors of Oberlin’s college newspaper, Saturday’s coverage of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was the press’s “love letter to ourselves.” The members of an association that had not long ago embraced its corruption and venality would be humiliated by this display of callousness toward real suffering in defense of a customary and cherished privilege. But you aren’t hearing very much embarrassment this morning, are you?

Baltimore Mayor (D) said to give "space to destroy" by giving space for peaceful protests

When are black Americans going to learn that Obama doesn't care about them? He only used them to get elected. Everyone should see plainly now that the only black people he cares about are the ones who contributed to his campaigns. But even that is questionable.

... Never.

Unfortunately, considering the injustices of the past against black folks they likely only feel confident and comfortable w/ another black person running the show, given the alternative of Romney or someone similar. I'm being nice when saying this but those who embrace collectivism be it race or whatever, are destined to reap the rewards of it. Ultimately, a protest is only going to stay peaceful when those doing the protest keep their morals and their tempers intact. When the low intelligent rise to the top and the peaceful blend into the background, this is what it starts to look like.

Funny you mentioned Romney as not really 'an alternative' for not racist black folks

WAR ZONE: BALTIMORE ERUPTS INTO VIOLENCE, CHAOS AS #BLACKLIVESMATTER RIOTS RAGE

BALTIMORE, Maryland — Racial protests supposed to be peaceful quickly turned into violent riots on Saturday evening, closing down the city of Baltimore for some time—and creating a panic for thousands of people as just 50 miles away elites in Washington partied with President Barack Obama at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Personally, I wasn’t supposed to be on the job tonight as a reporter. After a long news week and as several of my contemporaries lived high on the hog down in D.C. at the so-called “Nerd Prom,” me and my brother left D.C. to go see our Boston Red Sox play the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards I hate the White House Correspondents’ Dinner—it represents everything I think is wrong with Washington, making celebrities out of news media and politicians—and given the fact I grew up just outside Boston I figured seeing the Red Sox play in Baltimore would be a great reprieve from the political culture. Boy was I wrong.

My brother and I arrived in Baltimore just outside Camden Yards about an hour before the game, and went into Bullpen Bar—one of three iconic all-brick building bars right outside the stadium—for a beer before the Sox took on the O’s. I usually make it up here for a game or two every year, and have always found Orioles fans to be pleasant. We’re united in our hatred of the Yankees.

Bullpen Bar sits between Pickles Pub and Sliders Bar & Grill. Outside each of the brick-faced bars, on the days of Orioles Games, each bar puts out barricades about 20 feet from their front doors. Shoulder-to-shoulder crowds of fans from each team—the Orioles, and in the case of Saturday night, the Red Sox—pack into three bars and the barricaded-off space in front before each game. Inside and outside of each, bartenders serve “cheap beer”—or so the $6-per-tall-boy-cans are advertised on big signs—while hotdogs, sausages and other pastime favorites are sold by each and by vendors who set up tents across the street. The blue collar culture—and really friendly people—are what make Baltimore baseball games so much fun, and there’s no better place to kick off an adventure into Camden Yards than here.

But on Saturday night, after my brother and I finished off our beers at Bullpen and began walking across the street to the stadium, planning to make our way to our seats after getting inside, chaos broke out.
