gratz on the business. My suggestion is to work the shipping into the price to make it easier. (for US customers)

Thanks! Once volume starts to pick up I will probably work out a fixed price with a shipper. Right now I am going to use USPS priority mail with a discount from stamps.com. The zoned pricing looks like a better deal for customers than the flat rate boxes.

**Edit I might actually be able to do something like that after I speak with Fedex tomorrow. They have some flat rates that might work better than the USPS.

I am also setting up escrow since this is a new business. We will keep an amount of BTC in escrow to match our inventory that customers can file a claim from if they order and don't receive their package. In the bitcoin world trust is something you have to earn.

Just a quick heads up, we are now open for business! I ordered the beans Friday and they were able to get them to me yesterday instead of Monday. In order to offer good prices and make shipping more reasonable we are selling in two pound increments. You can place an order through the form on the site or here. Send me your shipping zip code and amount you want and I will send you a payment address with your total including shipping. Orders between now and 2pm est tomorrow will be shipped via priority mail tomorrow.

Sorry for the slightly blurry image. My photography skills are not that great, but here is a photo of the actual beans:

I have a few questions concerning your coffee.

1. Are they 100% Arabica beans or is it a blend?
2. Do you ship worldwide?
3. Are the beans packaged so they stay fresh for a while?

This is a blend. I do plan to add non blended varietals in the near future, but the current House Blend is a very good cup of coffee. I can do special orders as well if you are looking for something in particular.

I haven't looked at it yet. I am guessing international shipping might be cost prohibitive but that is only speculation on my part. If the price for shipping is okay with the buyer I would do it. This forum is an international one so I think it would be short sighted to limit this to US customers. Maybe larger order sizes would make international shipping less cost prohibitive. I can also do custom orders. It would take a couple of days to get the beans here for packaging and shipping but other than that it shouldn't be an issue.

The packaging is foil bags with the vent for carbon dioxide so yes they will stay fresh a while. The particular blend I have on sale right now is the coffee I drink every day. I had a bag sitting for a month once and it tasted good. The fact that they are roasted the day before I get them helps a lot. If the order is a bigger one I can break it down into one pound bags so you don't have to open the whole thing at once.

If you want a particular coffee feel free to pm me or e-mail me at [email protected]. I will check the pricing and if it works for you we can do business. Since I am in the US and we don't know each other I would be happy to use escrow if it makes you more comfortable.

Either way thanks for your questions.

This first post is kind of a feeler to gauge interest and solicit feedback on this business idea.

I am starting the Bit Beans Coffee Company. We will be selling high quality freshly roasted coffee beans for bitcoin.

Most coffee available in supermarkets has been warehoused for weeks or months at a time and is quite stale by the time it hits the shelves of your mega mart. Our coffee will be ordered weekly in small batches that are still warm from roasting when they leave the roaster. We will receive them within 24 hours of roasting so there is not a fresher coffee bean available to most people.

We will start with custom city roast blend designed for balanced flavor and acidity. These will come in 1 pound foil bags sealed with a constant heat sealer to preserve freshness and flavor. We will be adding new blends as we grow. We will have a full city roast and probably a Vienna roast for espresso lovers. There will also be an option to order 5 pound bags at a discount as this business grows.

I am anxious to get started so I am placing my first order of beans this week. For now we will use this thread as the order thread. If you want to try out our coffee say so in this thread and I will post a payment address with the price including shipping for you. As soon as payment arrives your order will ship. We will ship daily at regular USPS prices.

We don’t have a fancy logo or website just yet but we do have excellent coffee at a good price.

At the current btc price each one pound bag will be .024. This will be updated frequently.

If there is a good amount of interest I will place larger orders with my wholesaler and pass on the savings to you.

As volume grows I also plan to start talking bit coin with my supplier because I would like this to be a complete bitcoin business. For now we will be exchanging only what we need for inventory and supplies.

Thanks in advance for your feedback and I hope you will give our coffee a chance.

Hi!..from reading your post i feel you're a sincere and genuine businessman who is passionate about his product and i really wish you all the best in your this coffee biz undertaking..Cheers!:)

Thanks Lushora. I think it is the only way to do business and succeed long term. Once I get out of the shoe string/boot strap phase we will have more products and a better website. I wish they gave away awards for ugly websites.

Welcome to the forums by the way.

Thanks for the well wishes!

Keurigs are a great convenience for sure. Even I have the occasional less than 60 second cup of coffee when I am in a hurry.

I am not sure that would be the proper venue for these kind of beans though. When coffee is ground it starts that rapid decline in flavor and freshness almost immediately. Personally I would never feel right selling ground coffee as I could not guarantee freshness unless it was used on the day it arrived. I don't know many households outside of mine that would be able to use that much in a day.

I know there are adapters that you can use for brewing ground coffee in a keurig but it always seems to taste off to me.

If you want occasional great coffee it might be worth looking at a french press. Bodum makes a great one at a very good price. It is a bit more work but for the occasions when you want a great cup of coffee that might be a good option.

Sorry for the long winded response. As you can tell I am a little obsessed with all things coffee.

**edit** Posted this originally with my non-business account. i.e. the one where I can argue and even curse a bit without alienating potential customers.

Ron,

First, best of luck with your venture!  The more of this we see the more entrenched in the real world economy BTC will become!

I am a die hard coffee drinker but I fallen victim to the dreaded 'Keurig' revolution and do not even own a traditional coffee pot anymore. I wonder have you, or do you plan at all, to research what is required to make/sell the pods for these wonderful little machines?

Just a quick update. I have a very basic site set up now. It will be updated and upgraded obviously but I have an order form and a questions/comments page.

www.bitbeanscoffee.com

Please be gentle in your reviews as it is literally my first ever website. My schooling was in culinary arts, not web design. Grin

You will notice if you search the info on the site that nothing is hidden. My identity is there for the world to see if you look it up. I know that is risky in the internet world but I would want transparency so I feel it is only fair to provide it.
