Because there is a spread. The actual price of the coin is different from the buy or bid price as well as the sell or ask price. The price is in between the buy/bid price, which is higher, and the sell/ask price, which is lower. So if a coin, for example, is $0.48 it could mean the buy is $0.50 and the sell is $0.46.

If you wish to avoid it then indicate your preferred price. But, even so, you will still pay a reasonable fee.

Obviously when you use the instant exchange features or swaps, you are going to pay a lot more than when you place limit orders yourself basing on the order book.

Why not try this: https://www.kraken.com/u/trade
Use Intermediate and advanced to set the prices you would like to buy at. make sure you first have a lot at the orderbook.

As they wrote above, there is no exchange that would not charge any fees.
Sometimes there are some promotions or short periods in which the exchange does not charge a fee.
However, in my opinion you just missed something.
Don't worry, it's tough at the beginning, but you'll get used to it  Wink

Is this how they make money?
Why are they charging me 2p more for a coin??
That adds up!

Any way around this??? They tell me there are no fees! (I was give kraken credit recently)

There are charges for all transactions on any crypto trading/exchange though you may complain of a high fees.
There is no 0% commission fees on any exchange at least, i dont know of any.
credit cards have their own commission process and its not hidden.

kraken (for what I know since I am also a user here) doesn't have a politic of "free exchange" unless you're buying directly from your account balance.
but as the standard in this industry they will charge a small fee for every movement (like deposit exchange withdraw ecc) for a lot of other products like stablecoins / margin and futures.
https://www.kraken.com/en-us/features/fee-schedule

you can just look into your filled order and you find everything detailed (including fees).
