Not all Dev's are evil and looking out for their own pockets
I would imagine they make their money by doing what their name implies and developing coins. Alt coins devs are largely shady characters and they only care about making as much money as possible. They do this by pre-mining coins and then dumping them as soon as they can leaving everyone else holding worthless bags of coins.

Taking over a dead coin and making it something better then it ever was in the past. Maybe even having multiple projects assisting others who want a certain coin made.
