coinbase website and now I saw that I can't move the coins because its locked for 15 days. my account is fully verified with docs.

Strongly recommend you to use some other exchange. For us would be unthinkable to lock coins bought by our customers with verified documents.

I agree with you. Using coinbase has no pros. High fees, strict KYC rules, very little supported coins, they are reporting you to the authorities for tax purposes, now we hear about locked funds. They are much worse than competition. You can see how they managed to build their brand and are popular despite all the shortcomings.

It is probably due to strict kyc checks, they might have sent your documents to the ID verification department. It will take a long time to get verified but they should uodate you in the process

I believe USA excessive regulations are a bad thing for the sector now. USA doesn't have much exchanges, and all of them have too many rules.

This sector desperately needs to grow and flourish in the us.

Hey,

Just bought some coins via coinbase website and now I saw that I can't move the coins because its locked for 15 days. my account is fully verified with docs.

Is there any way to speed up things and unlock the coins?

Now,that's why I've deleted my Coinbase account 3 years ago and will never use Coinbase.
They can lock (or block) your coins for any reason. You will have to proof that the money you used to buy the coins aren't from fraudulent activites. You won't use the coins in your account for gambling, cuz' they could block you right away.Coinbase acts like they own your money/coins. Angry

Yeah, i used bank transfer and maybe this is why I cant use coins yet. Will wait few days and will see maybe after bank trabsfer will be fully approved, i would be able to use my coins. thanks for answer!

I've never experienced these problems myself, but I've seen complaints about them before. Most complaints are centered around the Coinbase direct buy service where you buy via credit card or bank transfer. I would avoid buying that way if you have the option of depositing and using the exchange.

The best way to use Coinbase is to deposit USD, transfer the USD to Coinbase Pro, and then buy using limit orders. You'll avoid all fees this way and your coins won't be subject to any holds. This isn't available in all countries, though.

Coinbase has had a history with account suspensions and stuff like that. I've never heard of anyone getting their coins locked for 15 days, though.

It could be because of the fact that you paid with bank transfer. That seems like the likely answer for now. You should still contact support to clarify why exactly this has happened, however. I don't think that any other service holds customer funds for this long.

In the future, I would not recommend coinbase as an exchange or as a wallet. You're likely not going to get the best rates, you don't hold your own private key when holding funds on their platform, and previously they have frozen accounts that have simply been suspected of dealing with gambling websites. Essentially, you don't have full control over your coins, which is the point of BTC. Their support is also pretty terrible all throughout 2017. There are plenty of other exchanges, as well as wallets, that are available.

Lmao this is taking centralization to another level. Why would you buy coins from a service that can provide your data to FBI without giving two fucks about your anonymity? The reason why it takes buying bitcoins easier for you is that they get something better in return. You might just stay with the banks and fiat if you wish to use coinbase.

I've heard good things from Bittrex if you're looking for an alternative to Coinbase.
Is that so? I honestly haven't seen much good from Bittrex in the last 12 or so months. They're known to aggressively freeze people's funds just like what Poloniex has been doing for even longer, and is still doing.

I don't know why, but the moment they tried to somewhat comply with the jurisdiction they operate in to become a fiat entry and exit point, they became crazy paranoid and that lead to their downfal and they are still not doing well.

Coinbase is the most compliant exchange in the industry, yet it doesn't force its will upon users like Bittrex and Poloniex do. Isn't it surprising? Bittrex and Poloniex were the largest exchanges at one point, now they're nothing.

Contacting support's going to be your best option, but there's always the chance that support won't do anything about it and you'll need to wait the 15 days quoted to be able to transfer your coins. Using another exchanging service in the future will ensure you won't be getting delays like the one you're talking about in this thread. I've heard good things from Bittrex if you're looking for an alternative to Coinbase. I've also personally used LocalBitcoins successfully in the last few months with few issues, though you'll need to look out for scams if you do use LocalBitcoins- thankfully most of them are rather obvious.
I doubt they wont answer nor they would just speak out on whats being written on their terms when it comes to bank transfers. 15 days clearing is indeed needed and this the the hassle thing when you do make
use of such services when purchasing up Bitcoin unlike on others which you can do it without any such waiting time. For now on OP's situation, you wont really have any choice but to wait up.
Contacting their support will be needed if they do already surpassed 15 days given time.

Hmm.. Is this a bank transfer? Funds needs to be cleared up from your bank account first before you can actually withdraw them.

Money left my bank account, where is my digital currency?

When initiating a bank transfer, you will see the funds pulled from your account immediately upon authorization. This is primarily so we can lock in your quoted price. Due to the irreversible nature of digital currency, we must also ensure that all funds have cleared prior to finalizing the transaction.

Depending on your bank, it may take one to two business days for the funds to flow between banks and enter our system. Additionally, It may take two to three business days to clear on our end. Once your funds have cleared in our system, we transfer your digital currency to your wallet immediately at the price that we initially locked in.

It says 5 days there but some ppl are close to your time frame.

Do I really have to wait the full 12 days?

After a quick Google search, it seems that this really isn't an uncommon thing when talking about Coinbase. Some dude on Reddit[1] even said that he/she got a 4-month lock. At least you got a lesser duration I guess?

If you're planning on buying some bitcoin and planning on using them immediately, probably pick another service next time. Try out LocalBitcoins[2] probably?
