Best you can do from now on is just do cash based or cash deposits thats not affiliated with like a "broker" type system in place.

Just go with localbitcoins. I always hear bad support by coinbase which that alone doesnt make me wana touch coinbase despite me being the US.

You should really own your private keys, and the best way to do that is a hardware wallet like Trezor or Ledger.

Yes Coinbase are glorified dong-eaters.  Stick with Circle and ffs don't keep any coin on any exchange.  Way too risky.

Congratulations on moving out of Coinbase and switching to a wallet like Electrum in which you can control your own bitcoins freely. As for the part of trying to sell in the US, reading the service discussion board can only do to you good, also the service announcement and lastly you can even try to sell your bitcoins here in the currency exchange board.

I was using Coinbase for selling BTC. I would appreciate any other recommendations for selling in the US.

Circle, Itbit, Gemini. You're going to come up against the exact same issues if names and accounts don't match though.

What about Bitstamp or Kraken? Might be easier as those companies trade USD, but operate out of Europe (and I think OP said it's her British nationality that's thrown up many of the obstacles)

Yea, these KYC/AML regulations and validation sucks big time and it's more of a barrier than anything else. If you want to use these services, you have to face up to their bullshit rules. In many ways

they are even worst than banks... at least when you phone the bank support line, someone answers within 3 hours.  Roll Eyes A day will come when everyone accepts bitcoin and we can skip these services,

but until then we will have to play by their rules.  Angry

Honestly coinbase has low support or delayed support also i experience of pending that i did know that if you send using gambling site you will experience of pending in your coinbase wallet so i suggest to you once you get the bitcoin better to use electrum its a low size file of electrum that you can download it fast..  than wasting your bitcoins in online wallet like coinbase that you didnt know how long they will live..

It's easy. Pick another company to use than Coinbase instead of writing a post about Coinbase. They will not change because of this post. They have AML and KYC rules to follow. Don't you get that?

Thanks guys and/or girls.. If it wasn't for you people my hair would be in a heap on the floor by now.

I do now have an Electrum wallet. I tried doing a sweep from my Blockchain wallet but it was a no-go after their recent site 'upgrade'.

I did find a fraud hotline for Coinbase - 800 343 5845. I requested a callback.

If it's no joy there I'll be calling their investors next.

Rizz - it just occurred to me that I owe someone some money due in a few months and she is happy to accept BTC.  I might end up doing exactly that. Paper wallet and wait for amateur hour to be over Smiley

Very frustrating.

It would be a shame to quit bitcoin because of bad service providers.
Keep pestering them. Get it back. Put it on paper wallet. Forget it for a while.

Keep us posted, that may help your case.
Good luck

"does everyone think that weakness was unique to the Blockchain wallet?"
Is that coinbase wallet, or blockchain.info or other?

What are you using your Coinbase account for? Is it buying BTC, selling or storing it? As you're in the US there are better options for all three.

And if I were a mail order bride I'd be using my manfriend's account if there was any doubt about my status. All of these companies are hyper prickly about question marks when it comes to banking.

Hi,

I am about to throw in the bitcoin towel for good. From Patrick Strateman to Blockchain wallet fiascos and now its effing Coinbase!

A while back I had a thread about how my online blockchain wallet was throwing some strange error, and no coins would move out of it. After almost two months Blockchain can't fix this and my coins are lost. There's a surprise, always happens during a price rise. Blockchain support says the problem is Coinbase sent me some double-spent coin change that threw a glitch they cannot so far find a way to fix.

Yeah... OK. $150 worth of BTC gone. Like being mugged, I can live with that once in a while. On to the next problem.

So I've had a Coinbase account for a while. Verified my identity with my passport ages ago and gave them the bank account details of mine and hubby's joint account. It all worked fine for ages.

I'm a Brit, he is a Yank, we live in the US. We have been using joint accounts but after a while I start feeling like a mail order bride from the 1950's so I want my own.

Oh dear, no SSN. Immigration have had my file for five years now and still can't make their minds up. Major pain to set up my own US bank account so hubby makes me a sub account in his account at Suntrust under my business name.

Yay - a US bank account of my very own!!

I send my Amazon earnings there, I send my Ebay earnings there, I send my bitc... oh, wait..

I add the sub account to Coinbase and it throws a wobbly. Note - I added it. I did not delete the joint account they have been perfectly happy with for months.

They asked me via email for an explanation of why my name isn't on this bank account. I sent them one, also mentioning their double spend issue.

No reply.

I log in to Coinbase a week later to find they want ID uploaded again. I upload it, Coinbase rejects it. I don't know why. it is my passport. They were just fine with it before.

I try checking my account to see if I can do anything. Anything at all. I can't. I can't send to the joint account either. it keeps asking me for ID it rejects. I look for a phone number so if I get nowhere my lawyer can call them as I don't have time for this bollocks right now. Specially not after they just nuked my Blockchain wallet with its BTC in.

Nothing. No phone number. ******* Amateur hour again.

The only thing it seems I can do is send coins to my Electrum wallet, but I am scared they will send me more doublespends and screw that up too. Technically is this a real possibility, or does everyone think that weakness was unique to the Blockchain wallet?

I'm going to find out who runs Coinbase, who invests in Coinbase etc.. and phone them up at dinner time every night till they fix this because I just hit my effing limit.
