Issues are bound to happen in exchanges or any platform, since humans are not perfect their innovations will hardly be either. However, I don't really trade on Coinbase but I believe whenever you encounter any issue on an exchange the best way to get it solved is by contacting the customer care, and they would be in the best position to explain what happened and how the issue will be sorted out. So far you did the correct thing, there is no need to panic, if there is any further requirements from you, the customer care will let you know while they work on the issue. Also, another way is by going to the telegram group and using the search engine for key words related to your issue, that will give you a glimpse of what happened, what to expect and how the issue will be solved.

I initiated a Coinbase transfer of my Ethereum from the vault to the wallet today. After performing both parts of the two-step approval, I looked at my portfolio and it showed no Ethereum. Is it normal for that portion to disappear from the portfolio during the 48-hour transfer process? I don't remember seeing that happen before.

Based up about into their FAQ or Help section.

For a standard vault, once you enter the withdrawal details, a confirmation email will be sent to your inbox and to your secondary email inbox. Once the details are approved there, the 48-hour waiting period will begin.

Note: Currently, it's only possible to create one withdrawal request at a time. You must wait for an existing withdrawal to complete, or cancel it, before making another.

You would need to wait for 48 hours! Nothing to worry..

Yes, I've been receiving email notifications that my Ethereum transfer is pending. I was just surprised to see my portfolio balance drop like that by the amount of Ethereum I had. I don't remember seeing it do that before. But maybe it's normal. Thanks for the reply.
If it's recorded and says that it's pending. Wait until it has been successfully processed. And even you contact support, it will take you time before you get a response.
You have to wait until it's finally done.

It could've just been a system update too. As long as you have evidence of what you've done they can't really contest it anyway so you may as well just wait and see.

I'd say probably

If in doubt you can always contact their support but you could just wait the 48 hours and see what happens. If you click on your vault account does it show anything? Did you get a confirmation email also?
