I want to buy $100k worth of Bitcoin and move them to an exchange.

1. Are there better alternatives to Coinbase in terms of purchase fees and transaction?

2. Wouldnt it maybe be cheaper to buy LTC, move it to the exchange and buy BTC with it?

Great initiative that you don't go for the first exchange you see but look around first.

We have developed a tool for people like you, who are thinking of what exchange that suits them best. It's available here: https://www.cryptowisser.com/

In that tool (the Exchange Finder) you answer 6 questions, and you are then matched with all exchanges that matches your input. In that matching, you will also see relevant fees etc.

Good luck in your search!

All the best,

I believe you might be confused. You need to buy Bitcoin from an exchange. So you're starting at a exchange, therefore you won't need to move your Bitcoin to another exchange. What you should do is move your Bitcoin to another wallet, that isn't on an exchange. It's safer to keep your Bitcoin off an exchange.

1. Are there better alternatives to Coinbase in terms of purchase fees and transaction?

Sure! Let's start with where you live, what Country? Coinbase doesn't operate in every Country in the world (ore even every state in the US).

2. Wouldnt it maybe be cheaper to buy LTC, move it to the exchange and buy BTC with it?

No. Making two transactions over two different blockchains will incur two different sets of miners fees. Keep the transaction as simple as possible.

There isn't an exchange that caters to every user specifically, there's often give and take when comparing one platform to the other, so once you figure out what's most important to you, you can choose an exchange from there. We have a guide to exchanges on our blog that might help, so check it out  Smiley

I want to buy popular altcoins (ETH, LTC, BCH, etc.) via USD (this one is crucial).
It could be directly via debit card or with wire transfer (but only trusted one).

coinbase
High fee, cannot buy with USD in Europe (EUR only)

kraken
use USDT, not USD, which I don't trust at all

bitfinex
min. deposit is 10.000$, which is ridiculous

Binance
it's only alt exchange, with no FIATs

Bittrex
registration is temporarily suspended, so...

cex.io
registration is temporarily suspended, so...

Changelly
They had a very negative feedback lately, so I'm not willing to test it with $100 - which is minimum deposit.
I tend to check every new service with small amounts first and if this works good, then I invest larger amounts. For "small" I mean like 20, 30$.

GDAX
bitstamp
bitcoin.de
Gemini
Luno
eToro
BitPanda

I don't have any experience with all reds above. Could anyone, who have been using them, can elaborate?
Otherwise, what's your opinion about ALL of mentioned above, in terms of using EUR instead of USD?

4. GDAX - When you buy Bitcoin there will be a 0.25% fee and a 0.30% fee for when you buy Ether or Litecoin. Deposits and Withdrawals are Free.

If a limit buy/sell order is used, GDAX does not charge a fee. Additionally, the TX fee is handled by GDAX making it totally free. The downside is the week delay if you are doing a ETF from a bank, but it's the cheapest way.

Robinhood - commission free but long line.
Not sure if they will allow you to move BTC so something to research before using it.
Robinhood:

1. Is only available to five states in the US: California, Massachusetts, Montana, Missouri and New Hampshire.
2. There are more than 1 million people in line to get access to the app.

So they are not the best option right now. They do allow you to withdraw your BTC however.

not an expert for GBP to be honest. I guess some other guys can assist you better here.

thread should be "Best Exchange to Deposit GBP".

I heard of CryptoMate, Coinfloor, CEX, Kraken and Coinroom might work well for UK.

it depends pretty much on where you live.

good exchange for depositing EUR or USD fiat are:

- coinbase https://bitcoincashback.net/coinbase-review.html
- bitstamp
- bitfinex (currently under SEC Investigation, min 10k USD deposit to trade) https://bitcoincashback.net/bitfinex-review.html
- bitcoin.de
- kraken

I linked my reviews to two of the sites I listed.

British Pounds in my case.

Now we're talking! We could use your investment right now!

There might be better alternatives to Coinbase, but first...what country do you live in? Your exchange options are driven by country of residence.

Here's a link to a site that offers comparisons of several, if not all, exchanges: https://www.cryptocompare.com/exchanges/#/overview

It could be a bit cheaper to buy LTC, but mostly because the volatility is less than BTC. Bitcoin has had some wild swings. Litcoin is, right now, a better place to house some coin before you make your purchase.

I did a bit of a research and these are the best and cheap Coinbase alternatives:

(hope you find it useful, you can also do some research on how to get started with these Coinbase alternatives)

1. Gemini - The fees amount to just 0.25%

2. Binance - The fee is just 0.1%. You can even bring it down to 0.05% just by using their own in-platform token called Binance Coin (BNB) which you can easily convert just by using your Bitcoin or Ether you have.

3. Luno- The fees are either free or either super cheap. Withdrawal fees are EUR 0.30 and Deposit fees are Free.

4. GDAX - When you buy Bitcoin there will be a 0.25% fee and a 0.30% fee for when you buy Ether or Litecoin. Deposits and Withdrawals are Free.

5. Kraken - Anywhere from 0.0% (which is Free) to 0.26% trading fees.

IIRC you don't pay any fees if you buy them with GDAX instead of Coinbase. Go to Youtube and search "GDAX no fees"; There are tons of videos explaining it better.

2. Wouldnt it maybe be cheaper to buy LTC, move it to the exchange and buy BTC with it?
I don't think so. This would only be better if you wanted to buy Bitcoins to later send them to an multi-coins exchange and buy less popular altcoins like NEO, IOTA, XMR, other ERC20 tokens, etc... (due to LTC has cheaper miner fees and a fastar block time)

GDAX is a good starter site but you will want to join binance, kucoin or cryptopia if you want a good selection of coins.
Yes sending LTC will be much cheaper than BTC. Avoid sending BTC if you can.

It is convenient to buy directly from Coinbase, but you pay for the convenience. If you want to save money, you can buy bitcoins on an exchange such as GDAX (which is run by Coinbase), Gemini, Kraken, etc...
