You should send some ethereum to your trust wallet to be able to send your USDT out from your trust wallet. You may ask your friend to send some ethereum based on this chart https://etherscan.io/gastracker

The average fee for sending your USDT was $5 and that means you should add at least $7 worth of ethereum to your wallet.

For sending any ERC20 token, you have to pay the fee with Ethereum. Therefore, you need to have ethereum in the address you are trying to send USDT from.
This is right.
You have to deposit again to cover the fees(gas) so you can transfer your USDT out of your trust wallet. You should have managed to trade at least a few amounts of Bitcoin to Ethereum for the fees after or before you have fully swapped your bitcoin to USDT.

I'm little confused so what do I need to do in trust wallet to swap it for safemoon, ? I didn't want to fully swap it out, it won't even let me swap it for smart chain bnb to swap for safemoon... I'm stuck..
Don't be confused. The only solution was already said by the other posts and that is to deposit Ethereum. Fees are currently around on the estimation of $2 but that's changing from time to time but I have given you an idea of how much Ethereum you have to deposit. Don't go with that exact $2 and it's better for you to exceed that amount so that you won't have any problem swapping it.

The swap function in trustwallet is sending a token and receiving another token instead. So, when you swap your USDT tokens, you actually make a transaction and send your tokens to another address.
As long as you don't have any ethereum in the address holding your USDT tokens, it's impossible to move your USDT tokens and therefore you can't swap them.

As already mentioned above, the first thing you need to do is send ethereum to the address holding your USDT tokens.

If I did not misunderstand your usdt, you tried to express that you have withdrawn as ERC20. Or the other way around. In any case, when you want to transfer it to another place, it will ask you a certain amount of fee as a fee. For this reason, you have to send some eth to your account for the current gass transaction fee in order to perform this operation. Otherwise, your transaction will not take place.

Where are you trying to do your transaction exactly. Through the swap department?

Send certain small amount of ethereum like $5 to $10 into trust wallet, this will be used as fee. I will advice you not to use ERC20 again for USDT because the fee is too high. It is better you use TRC20 in which Tron blockchain will be used and you will need to pay Tron, less than $1 worth of Tron will be used as fee.

USDT doesn't have its own blockchain.
The USDT token you are talking about is an ERC20 token and is using the Ethereum blockchain.

So I swapped bitcoin ($400)to  usdt(erc20) to trust wallet ,thinking I could swap it for safemoon which it clearly won't let me. So my question is how do I transfer my erc 20 usdt out of trust wallet, , now its at $324 , I tried sending it out and keeps telling me I don't have enough ethereum to send.  This is getting  stupid and I'm losing money like crazy.  Anyone who can help? It won't let me swap it or do anything with it.....?? Plz help
