You might want to consider switching to a proper wallet.

A browser-based wallet doesn't give you any advantages over a desktop wallet, but introduces new vulnerabilities and might give you a false sense of security.

If you are only accessing your coins from a single device, chose a desktop wallet.
If you need to access it from different devices, chose a suitable wallet for each device/platform sharing the same seed.

With a desktop-/mobile wallet, you are not just increasing the security, but also get access to more features compared to web- or browser-based wallets.

I have a coinb.in wallet and can't access it as Coinb.in is down. Does anyone know what is going on and when it is likely to be back up and running?
https://Coinb.in is pretty much up and running at my end. Please check at your end.

If not, is there a way of retrieving the btc from my wallet while its down?
If you have the private key of your Bitcoin address, you can always gain access to your fund from some other wallet by importing your private key. But, if you have created a wallet at https://coinb.in/#wallet with your Email ID & Password and have not saved your Private Key, then you have to use the same interface to regain access to your fund.

Should not be difficult either way, as Coinb.in appears to be up & running.

I'm really struggling to install Electrum on my macbook air. and I can't seem to follow the other steps you gave. I'm sorry for being really stupid but this is all new to me. If you can give me some more information on how to download coinb.in so I can get to my bitcoin that would be great. Thanks
You can follow the guide below on how to install Electrum to your MacBook.

I have managed to extract the file and then open index.html and I have logged into my wallet but its showing a zero balance even though there is definitely btc in there. The blockchain shows btc in my wallet. Please help. I'm really worried that I will not be able to recover my btc

If it shows zero balance and sending is not possible, try this below.

Make unsign transactions, and please use this as an alternative only to make unsign transactions.
- Go to Broadcast tab
- Find this image below

- Then follow the setup as the image show below.

Now check your wallet again if it will show your all balance if not, then you need to make unsign transactions in a new tab and select transaction and sign the transaction in sign tab and then broadcast the transaction in broadcast tab.
You can follow the full instruction from here below.

Just to be clear, Coinb.in works completely in the user’s client since it is all made with HTML and Javascript. Just download it above and open it in your browser. It doesn’t matter where you access it from or even if their website stills exists.

Do you have any backup keys?
You should have those backup after you created a wallet from coinb.in.

If you have a private key backup you can just import the private key to another wallet and spend your BTC.
If you have a backup private key try Electrum wallet and import the private key but if you don't have a private key try to access the onion version link below.

Or download the coinb.in opensource from the link below.

Then extract the file and then open index.html

Now you can access the wallet tab and use the same email and password you used recently.
