Eeek, didn't know that the contest ended yesterday! Cheesy

Congrats to 001sonkit and his #moobot channel! Much fun was had there! Wink

Out of curiosity, if I were to create a 50 active person channel in the next few weeks, could I claim the 1st tier prize?

*lordsonkit ;P

Apparently no-one won because no-one managed to get 25 "active" users lol.

Probably not, to answer your question.

Being the proud owner of #moobot in Coin Chat, we are glad to be awarded the 2nd tier popular room award. We wish coin chat a successful future and have it to be the next Bitcoin IRC.

PS: we have also created a 3rd party client, things are more user friendly! http://chromaticcreative.net/bitcoin/moobot/flatapp.php

Hmmm...leave it to me to find an oddity...

I tried to sign up, but clicking on the signup button doesn't seem to do anything! Neither does the login button.

I'm using Firefox 21 on XP. I run NoScript, but I temporarily unblocked all scripts on the page, and everything seems to work except signup or login. I can see the chat going on in the main room, switch to full screen, or click on other buttons and get an appropriate response (like please register or log in to chat!). The little kitty even opens her mouth when I mouse over her.

Anybody run into this before? Suggestions?

-Mo

This is pretty odd. You sure you don't see any alerts below the login boxes? Make sure that you completed all the fields for registration.

Please press Ctrl+Shift+K, go to web console, see if there's any red errors.

TradeFortress, I own the room for MinecraftCC at the moment. Trying to get the admin of MCC to approve it, but I have a question.

Is http://coinchat.org/j:minecraftcc an eligible room yet? (as in 25+ "active" users)

Any announcements of the winners? Or is the contest still active?  Smiley
The contest ends May 26th (1 month from posting).

Ok, I have some questions:

By 25/50 active unique users do you mean concurrent users? If concurrent, would I need to have 50 people at any given moment for the whole month? Or a total of 50 different people who are active but not necessarily 50 at the same time? If so, how long would those people need to be online and actively participating in a discussion? If I create two rooms does it add up or is each rooms number of unique users counted separately?
You need at least 25/50 different people who are active at the same time. However, active doesn't mean they need to be constantly saying something, if they sign in every so often and do something they will be counted as active. (Exact way I'm calculating is not disclosed to make gaming harder)

You can't have 50 people who says one thing every 24 hours, the script may accept that but I have the final say. It must be organic and natural, get what I mean?

Absolutely, but it depends on the amount of active connections. It's very light, rarely uses a couple of percent of CPU of a cheap VPS - network IO is the limiting factor.

It's still under very active development as you can see by bootstrap. Coinchat is commercial through, I can release the core server software as FOSS, but if it's a good strategy for me is something else.

Well now, that's a complicated discussion, not meaning to go into it. Fact remains that easily distributable irc-like chat server has a future. We're not talking here of Bitcoin Gem sort of stuff, this looks like a genuine shot at something. Especially if it also includes good encryption natively.

What you make of that...well now that's your job isn't it.

Not to rain on your thing, which is cool and everything (yes, seriously): the main strategic advantage of IRC in MP's eyes is the distributed server architecture, which makes it very resilient.

Is there any way you can recode this so that anyone wanting can run a server, and then shutting the thing down would become a question of ruining everyone's computer? IRC servers are bulky and demanding, requiring dedicated servers pretty much. If your thing is nimble enough to be run on random desktop in background you've got a huge thing here.

I sincerely apologize but I am unable to assist on this matter. It is a problem with China's internet censorship, not a problem with the connection.

I know people blab for hours in coinad.com's general chat room just to get bits of coin, I love the idea of taking that but placing it in an actually chatroom that has a topic!  Just thinking about the hundreds of thousands (and that's being conservative) of lines I've typed into various IRC channels, lol I could be rich!  Best of luck with the site and great promotion... again just going based off of how many people flock to the coinad chat room I think you'll have great success.
