Many Facebook games require buy-in to their own in-game currency.  They're not gambling, they're things like buying items for Farmville.  If BitCoins were used to buy in-game currency like this for Facebook games, many people would buy-in for low amounts in an effort to level up their character.  The idea would be that eventually they'd attain a high enough level that it would pay out in a significant amount of BitCoins for them.

The majority of course would lose interest after a while, which accounts for the lion's share of the game makers' revenue.

The model is used already.  They're just not using BitCoins for it yet, and they probably should.  Facebook is, unfortunately, an ideal medium for this kind of game.  Social networks + gaming + [Bitcoin] cash.

Be well,

Wat
You cant spend facebook credits in the outside world. There is some difference between a virtual currency and bitcoin.

Maybe a self contained economy is the way to go ?

People are right about avoiding the gambling side of things as it is like a red rag to a bull as far as getting your servers seized.

You should try and integrate this game https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/completed-bit-fu-win-bitcoins-in-a-multiplayer-browser-kung-fu-game-25099 somehow, seems like it would be a good fit

thank you to the council who emailed me and who wishes to be anonymous. I appreciate you taking the time to explaining that to me.

We are still moving forward with Facebook style games but these may or may not be gambling games.

Still looking for a programmer who wants to make some coin and get in on the ground floor of CoinConnect - the Bitcoin Social network.

email [email protected]

thank you!

Thats good information and something I definitely need to look into further, I am still going to develop facebook style games for the site but probably not with gambling capabilities. It's too bad there are no bitcoin accepting lawyers around here I can consult, because law is not an area of my expertise.

please explain how this would be bad, because other feedback I have gotten from this indicates it would be a good thing for traffic and a good source of revenue.

I understand the legality of it may require moving the server offshore, but other than that what are your concerns?

The online poker services which the DoJ went after had their businesses registered and their servers located off-shore.  That didn't stop the DoJ from being able to get at them through their third party payment processors and seizing their domains.  Had they been located in the US, their businesses could probably have been shut down completely rather than just being closed to US customers.
