We know you're all dismayed that the coronavirus has canceled events worldwide this year, but nothing can extinguish our celebratory joy! We shall gather in Decentraland, the virtual decentralized world based on blockchain technology, and get fee tokens, play games, and explore together. The schedule is designed to accommodate people in all time zones.

The coronavirus has now brought significant changes to CoinFest this year. Despite our extensive preparations, sponsors and exhibitors from places like Italy and Washington State will not be able to travel. Health officials are also recommending against very large gatherings in Europe and North America.

As a result, events in Vancouver and Manchester will be drastically scaled down, this year. However, events in Africa—which has not been as severely affected—will continue as planned. Postponed events will return in the fall of 2020. Stay tuned for updates regarding new dates and the new status of CoinFest Vancouver and CoinFest UK.

It is looking less likely each day that we'll be hosting even something small in Manchester on April 3/4/5, still working on plans but some people who were
adamant that they were still coming to Manchester after we postponed the main event have also now pulled out.

We were thinking some smaller events focused on the specialities of the people still attending and focused around their ideal audiences
We have canceled our events in Vancouver for April completely... we probably will not even meet at our local crypto hack space. I recommend taking drastic measures in the UK, as well, which seems to be getting hit hard.

We are working to have an event in Decentraland, though... we just have to build our virtual clubhouse, first. If we can get it done in under two weeks, it would be great if you guys joined us online.

More than happy to join - Unsure on the logistics but happy to work it out! I want to see if we can host a few virtual events for all the groups involved in the UK event to chat and discuss ideas for the re-scheduled dates - It will be good to see how it works.

Will there be any online conference?
Funny you should ask that. We are heavily considering organizing an event in a decentralized virtual world such as Decentraland. We will let you all know if that plan works out, hopefully soon.

For now, you can learn all the details about what's happening at CoinFest 2020 from the updated webpage. Blockchain Gaming will be a huge component, and the coronavirus isn't gonna be stopping us.

It would be ace to connect us both together aswell during CoinFest!

Yeah, we must further improve our International Hangouts. If only we could change time zones, somehow! Maybe we could use a wormhole, or something

The Blockchain Gaming crew has some really exciting plans in the works for CoinFest 2020 in April. The two biggest participating cities, Vancouver and Manchester, will both have major blockchain gaming events. As usual, attendance will be free and open to everyone, but sponsors and exhibitors will want to be aware of some additional opportunities.

Generous bulk deals will be offered to those who participate in both UK and Vancouver events. We recognize that some projects don't have enough team members around the world for that, however, so we encourage you to attend either one based upon whichever is geographically closer.

Whichever route you choose, www.blockchaingaming.com will offer you a free bonus PR package. We will custom design/write one featured webpage/article about your project, or accept payment in locked tokens (preventing us from dumping immediately) if you wish to become a client. Our existing free community resources (Meetups, blog, forum for everyone) remain unchanged.

We are super excited about this! It would be ace to connect us both together aswell during CoinFest!

CoinFest 2019 was a blast, as usual. You can see all the cool events we had at http://www.coinfest.org/previous-events/

CoinFest 2020 has already been announced. So far, the cities planning events are all the same as last year, but we are encouraging people to step up and organize events in their cities, too. We have 11 months to plan, so it seems likely some will emerge.

Some important updates:

  • The date of CoinFest will be May 30 - April 5. Typically it is the first full week (Monday - Sunday) of April, but next year, that will not coincide with Satoshi's rumored birthday, or the Bitcoin Wednesday event in Amsterdam. This misalignment will occur every several years, at which points CoinFest will be shifted back exactly one week.
  • We now tolerate people organizing CoinFest events that are not free to attend; however, they will be unable to claim grant funding from the global CoinFest fund, as free events are still encouraged. This decision was made according to popular opinion following polls. CoinFest events are still expected to be non-profit, however, and will not be listed on coinfest.org if we suspect the organizer is directly profiting.
  • We are upgrading the multisig wallet which communally controls the global CoinFest fund. Previously, we used Copay, but they handled the Bitcoin Cash fork very poorly, such that we lost over $1000 worth of crypto due to no technical error on our organization's part. Also, Copay only allows 6 signatories max, but we have more organizers than that. Our new Electrum wallet will be 4-of-10, and set-up should soon be complete.
