Coinmap pulls OpenStreetmap data. I suspect somebody vandalized the database. Like Wikipedia, anybody is allowed to edit.

Yes anyone can put a point of interest in the system and just add the payment type= bitcoin tag

The revolution will be monetized!
... I'm pretty sure it is a law that all taxes must be paid in currency issued by the United States government.
That is correct. ONLY US currency. I can't imagine that changing.

I also don't want to go to jail. So, yeah, I pay taxes.

One of the main problems with Bitcoin is that if the user forgets their passwords or loses their private keys than they lost all their wealth(How do you tax that?).

Additionally, by moving wealth to different addresses, using coinjoin, stealth addresses, ect... it makes life very difficult, if not impossible for accountants and auditors.

It certainly will be interesting to see how governments deal with these interesting set of problems. I think there will be a slow and gradual shift to national sales taxes and VAT instead of income taxes personally.

The IRS would be smart to do it. Then the currency they collect wouldn't devalue before they even manage to collect it. I would send them fiat either way because I prefer BTC to fiat.

A Great Time to Start Something!

Obviously it is just a joke of some sort.  No ?

No idea... Maybe there is a mom and pop coffee shop in the building that takes bitcoin!

Good guess...or somebody hoping the IRS will add the option in the future, but currently just joking around.
Time to ask about the accuracy of CoinMap: Is it edited by anyone, like a Wiki?

Any ideas what that's all about?
It's about power.

Can I pay my 2014 taxes in BTC?
You can if you want to support terrorism and neo-imperialism.

I don't want to support either of those things. I also don't want to go to jail. So, yeah, I pay taxes.

But that was a joke. I'm pretty sure it is a law that all taxes must be paid in currency issued by the United States government.
