We at CoinTerra has now performed tape out of the GoldStrike1 ASIC (http://cointerra.com/cointerra-open-silicon-announce-tape-goldstrike1-asic/) and are moving forward towards production. If you have questions or want to discuss the tape out etc. Feel free to use this thread.

@cointerra : So....no more 1 TH/s miner ?

No plans for an entry level mining machine ?

The 2TH/s model for Feb is cheaper than the 1 TH/s model at launch.
As the price per GH/s continues to fall the economics don't really makes sense on the smaller unit.
KNC dropped the mercurcy, CT drops the 1 TH/s unit.  In time I would expect HF drops the single module Baby Jet and focuses on just the 3 module Sierra.
Anyone think if/when BFL gets the Monarch out in volume they will still be selling 25 GH/s rigs?  When prices are down to $1 per GH/s?

at least this isn't BFL!
curious how many btc 2th can earn with feb delivery
My guess is that diff at feb is 3000 - 5000 MM, meaning 2TH will generate maybe 5-10btc / month

Based on... what?

@cointerra : So....no more 1 TH/s miner ?

No plans for an entry level mining machine ?

cointerra's chip - at 500 Gh was never going to be for the low end miner.  for that, they are best served buying hashes from the aftermarket (cloud hashing etc) who buy big systems and break off the gh's into smaller chunks and sell to the entry level market.

it makes sense to put multiple chips in a box (two in a 1TH and even better.. 4 chips in the 2TH box) - and it seems to get better economies of scale by increasing the amount of chips in a box - i.e.: to be able to spread out the required component costs of the box (non asic)... e.g. the box itself, power supplies, dc/dc converters, the controller, fans, cooling systems etc... thus the cost difference between a 1 TH box and a 2TH box isn't so drastic..   so the way to bring the cost down $/GH is to cram as much hashing power in each box as possible and realise economies of scale to bring the price down for the customers.

asic companies selling less powerful chips can offer smaller systems and will operate in a different part of the market... but cointerras chips are probably best used in bigger systems to gain their max efficiency benefits.   Also, when space is at a premium (e.g. rented space in a data centre), packing more GH's per U makes a difference.   Cointerra's 2 TH in 4U is quite dense and efficient from a packaging point of view and will probably be lower running cost as well as lower GH cost... by comparison KnC is 0.55 GH in 4U, and Hashfast is 1.2 TH in 4U.

And anyway - assuming you ARE going to be mining and not sit it out...  with the network hash rate where its heading you may need terahashes not gigahashes to make a dent.

I like the open and frequent communication.
If you had a delay how would you go about sharing that?
Also when do you anticipate your next update announcement?

Weren't you supposed to tape out in the first week of October???

Does this mean you're one month behind schedule?

EDIT: And... he's gone without answering the most important question of all. LOL. They were online when I posted this reply.

Just tabbed to another window, you sure are fast!

We have been expediting every part of the production and manufacturing process to compensate for the delay in tape out. A lot of preparation was also done based on the feedback from our mock tape out, and these efforts are all to minimize the lead time. We estimate that we are still on schedule for our communicated delivery times.

Well sorry if this sounds rude but we have all heard many many times how companies are on track.  Nothing seems to affect delivery time until well it's delivery time pretty much, then we hear how hard it is to make/manufacture rigs and the excuses start rolling in.
