if OP wants to sell it then he should check out cryptsy.com he will get more return compare to hidden coinbase pricing scams for sellers.

Or if you don't want to send them to another address you can just import your address as Watch Only just to checking the balance on it,
Then you don't give access to coinbase, and still remain cold wallet.

Nah. After reading OP's post twice, I believe he really wants to send his bitcoin to Coinbase, probably to sell it.

Hello-

I was wondering how I get coins out of my cold storage paper wallet to Coinbase.  Can I send them straight to Coinbase or
do I need to bring them on line to another wallet first? What particular steps should be taken?

Any advice appreciated.

i believe you can import your private key into the coinbase wallet which would then give coinbase access to that address, or you can bring it online and send the coins to one of your coinbase addresses.
