We could probably talk all day on points about Seasteading and Vema.

I couldn't find anything that shows a for-a-fact operation going at the Vema seamount location. Sure, there is/has-been fishing and fish "stocking." But is there an actual, physical operation there? Or is it all simply in set-up mode?

The self-proclaimed government of Peter Goldishman’s might be technically valid. The International Court that says there is nothing against such a government. But the Court doesn't really have any formal authority, because it has no strength except when member nations decide to lend their strength to it.

In other words, Goldishman's proclamation is worth nothing until he has strength.

Seasteading strength is based on their acceptance by French Polynesia, a protectorate of France.

Personally, I think that Seasteading isn't going anywhere right at the moment. But I don't follow them, very much. Still, Seasteading has a big advantage by being accepted by French Polynesia, which is recognized by the International Court, rather than getting a simple Court declaration that something "illegal" isn't being done, as Goldishman has apparently received.

Either way, the idea of going ocean-ward with living is a good idea. The thing we lack is easy, cheap technology to get something going. Imagine moving half the people in Bangladesh and China out onto ocean based living quarters.

Thanks for the reply!

As for the Seasteading Insititute, although I do not question their good intent and expertise I would like to try a different approach than them. Seeing as they have focussed in recent years on developing a semi independent city within the territories of another nation state whilst my choice would be a seamount.

Kind greetings,

Deal fellow cryptopians,

We should make and ICO for a coin to colonize Vema seamount. The coin would be tradeable for energy, since this would be the thing powering the economy as it does everywhere. The energy can only be purchased with said token, thereby providing some foreign currency influx as it would become a useful hub for commercial shipping and scientific research into marine ecologies. It would essentially also be the most tax free of tax free places, since it is not in any countries exclusive economic zone or contintental zone. So far there has only been limited interest in Vema and all I could find was some website of what appeared to be a scam as has been reported in various media outlets. To the best of my knowledge, the only thing keeping people from going there and staying there are the prohibitive costs. These could be offset if there could be some form of sustainable and renewable development (think using some of that power to recycle stuff to the max so you do not need as much shipped there).

I would suggest that the coin offering would be layered. The first tier being around half a million dollars, with the proceeds of that going to a reputable research firm to come up with a number for the second tier and to work together in making the most viable plan to colonize Vema.

Please let me know what you guys think, I have thought about this quite a lot so I would like to have some outside input.

Kind greetings,
Auralea
