The days of free "fair" distributions are over now. There were several in the past, including NEM at the start and communitycoin (COMM). The first only had a limited free period after which people paid a set amount for their share. COMM had a strange distribution system where some got 2 stakes and others only 1. Also, the dev claimed to have lost access to his dev fund which basically killed the price because people did not believe him.
Your best bet is to just buy a coin you think will rise in the future. You will probably want to wait a bit, because most coins just had huge pumps and are returning to normal at the moment.
