Nigeria Gold Medal List
- Amusan, Oluwatobiloba – 100m Hurdles
Another big congratulations to Amusan, this record which she ran at 12.12secs at the commonwealth has been validated and she is now the world record holder officially for that category. She is an inspiration to other athletes who believe that they will one day be the first to hold a world record for their country.

Other records that were Ratified by the athletics body are;
- Armand Duplantis record 6.21m (Pole Vault)
- Sydney Mclaughlin record 51.41s, 50.68s (400mH)
- Letsile Tebogo record 9.94s (WU-20 100M)

Maybe it is time to admit that Indians are not made for athletics. May have something to do with the genes.
You can't be farther from the truth.
India has a population of 1.2B, with enough talent. But they lack infrastructure, guidance, and in a few words: money.

There's a much higher chance for someone living in a first world country to be able to dedicate his whole life to a sport without worrying about his livelihood, compared to someone from a developing/poor country(like India).

My cousin(who won Silver in this CWG), is a farmer  Smiley They have almost nil familial wealth, could only practice for like 2 years and still won a Silver  Wink

I wonder why the commonwealth games is not getting as much attention as it should here particularly since some of the countries present in the games have citizens who also members of this forum.

Commonwealth games in BIRMINGHAM 2022 were a great success but if we noticed it was a complete failure on bitcointalk discussions if we check the activity on this thread. Even the spam topics gain so many replies but seem no one care to show any response to these games. Even I was not aware that we had this discussion thread opened for this year's commonwealth games.  Roll Eyes

Overall a disappointing edition for the Indians. Last time, we had 26 golds and this time we have 22. Australia has three times as many medals as India, despite having just 2% of the population. During the recent years, there have been a lot of focus on sports, especially athletics and badminton. But none of it seems to have paid off. Luckily we managed to finish above New Zealand (which has 1/300th of the population of India). Maybe it is time to admit that Indians are not made for athletics. May have something to do with the genes.

Team India sweeps the individual event in Badminton with gold in both Mens and Womens singles. They are leading in the Men's doubles as well. Looks like 3 gold medals in Badminton for India.
Australia had a "gold free" day yesterday, but did win other colours.
The Aussies got gold medal in women's Cricket yesterday. Not sure if the time zone matches with yours though.

I am proud of Nigeria's performance so far in the games, surpassing our former record of eleven gold medals with now twelve gold medals.

Nigeria Gold Medal List
- Amusan, Oluwatobiloba – 100m Hurdles
- Brume, Ese – Long Jump
- Favour Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, Grace Nwokocha, and Amusan — Women’s 4x100m Relay
- Mercy Genesis Miesinnei — 50 kg weight class
- Oborududu Blessing – Wrestling (68kg)
- Odunayo Adekuoroye – Wrestling (57kg)
- Rafiatu Folashade Lawal – Weightlifting (59kg)
- Adijat Olarinoye – Weightlifting (55kg)
- Folashade Oluwafemiayo – Para Powerlifting (75kg)
- Eucharia Iyiazi – F55-57 Shot Put
- Chioma Onyekwere – Shot Put
- Goodness Nwachukwu – Discus Throw

Notice how all the names so far are all female names, our women are doing really well at the games, the males on the team need to step up performance.

Australia had a "gold free" day yesterday, but did win other colours.  If "team GB" performed as "one entity", then the UK/GB would be by far ahead of the other member nations.

Then again, in decades to come someone might say the same thing about the Euro Zone.

That's a very good question - there was a thread for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast here in Australia.  Perhaps the thread wasn't started early enough to gain interest?  Who are you placing bets through?

As of now the difference in total medals won by Australia and England doesn't have big difference. Just a 11 medals difference. Australia have totally won 145 and England have won 134. The difference in gold medal between the two is 7 medals. I'm sure this time the winner on the medals table is Australia and my bet is on Australia.

My cousin(Sagar Ahlawat) is going to win a medal here for sure in boxing, I hope he gets gold  Grin

He's in semis now and will have his bout today against Nigeria's ONYEKWERE. I am pretty confident that he will win semis and might even get a gold once he's in final!
Albeit, his opposite draw has some real competition(Orie and Leuila MAU'U). Orie got experience and Leuila lands pretty strong punches. Hoping for the best  Cheesy

Why js there is not much of forum users interested into commonwealth games.
I have been following up on the games because my country Nigeria is in attendance,  I have also been expecting a thread on it, very good to see one here...We have some golds already to our name, what we (Nigeria) will be expecting is for us to break our personal record of finishing the commonwealth games with 11 golds as usual. We have 5 already from the games we have participated in, I am positive that this current team representing my country can break the Jinx.

Why there is not much of forum users interested into commonwealth games. I've been watching different games and haven't placed any bets. Same as the previous commonwealth games Australia and England takes the first and second position. I was watching badminton, wrestling, and weightlifting.

I've always followed Badminton as one of my main sports when it comes to Commonwealth games as my country has a real good shot at it. Athletics and Boxing are always interesting though and something I follow on the side as well, until the main event hits.
