Companies try to benefit their shareholders in one of two ways, either by share appreciation or by paying dividends, and sometimes both. This has always been done in the fiat currency in which the company is listed, i.e. in the USA companies try to provide a good yield in USD for their shareholders. For example, Johnson and Johnson this year has paid a dividend yield of 3.32% on the share price and as of today the price is -6.66% for the year, giving a total yield (negative) of -3.34 as of today. But what I would like to emphasize is that all this is calculated in dollars. The company has paid $4.91 in dividends per share, and the share price is quoted in dollars.

Instead, in its second quarter earnings presentation on August 1, 2024, MicroStrategy introduced the concept of bitcoin yield.

Quote
We remain laser focused on our Bitcoin development strategy and intend to continue to achieve positive “BTC Yield,” which is a new KPI that we are introducing, targeting 4-8% annually, over each of the next three years.
(they later on raised the target to 6-10%)

This is a paradigm shift that I believe will be studied in the future in economics and business schools as they were the first to use bitcoin as a unit of account. In the most recent update, MSTR announced that it has achieved a 63.3% bitcoin yield so far this year for its shareholders, and the year is not over yet.

Another that has been quick to follow in MSTR's footsteps is MARA holdings, which has also incorporated the bitcoin yield concept, with a total of 37.2% yield per share so far this year.

In this thread I will track companies that announce they are adopting bitcoin yield and the actual yield they achieve for their shareholders quarterly and at the end of the year. I will reserve the second post to make a list or table about it.

Apart from that I also open the thread for us to share ideas about the concept, these companies, the strategy, the yield they achieve and so on.
