Radeon HD 7770: 204KH/s
Radeon HD 7790: 213KH/s

This card is capable of much more, but there seems to be something in the 7790 driver that auto-throttles it back.  None of the usual tools are currently capable of manual voltage control on the 7790.  Perhaps a future driver or tool will be capable of unlocking this card.

I have a Sapphire HD7770

GPU overclock settings in MSI Afterburner:

Core clock: 1179
Memory: 525 (the lowest setting because you don't need it to be any higher and it won't make a diff in hashing power)
power: 0
fan speed: 55%
These setting yield 214-217 Mh/s

I can clock the core at 1200, increase the fan speed to 60-65% and this gets 220 MH/s @ 67C.  But I like the card to run aroud 62C so I keep it at 1179 core.

does anyone think the price will drop when Radeon releases the 8 series in Q2 of this year?

they probably will somewhat.. but then again who knows how much better (if at all) the 8 series will be at mining.

Agreed, in the same way 5, 6 and 7 series are all perfectly viable for mining and just not as 'dense'. Unless there is a new technology bundled to improve computational power, its unlikely.

not sure if $150 is worth it... imo

thanks for breaking that down jjames888. it should make a good low yield/low power card. I am curious about the new radeons being released in a couple months.. i dont think ill be buying a 7790 as i have 6950s right now for gaming and looking to upgrade to something better. I think ill wait for the new 8 series cards to be released.

I heard they just released the Radeon 7790 card: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2416925,00.asp

It seems the 250mhash at 138w isnt as good as the 7770 with 200-250mhash at under 100w.

Is there any reason to consider the 7790 for that reason?

Note: it seems toms hardware number are quite different (mhash and wattage) than the mining hardware comparison.
