What about merchants accepting the coin?
Who exactly is accepting it?

Here it explains how it works with the merchants.

"Ziftrcoin will serve more as a reward system for using and accepting cryptocurrencies than as its own altcoin".
Ah, now it seems more clear.

Sounds much like a promising market niche, if it works as planned.

Oh, my.

"We’re locking these coins in the blockchain, where the first 25% won’t be available to use until one year
has passed and the remaining 75% will be distributed evenly over the course of the three years that follow."

These guys have ambitious plans, I should say.

They say they are going to giveaway coins this year.

I don't get it - first people BOUGHT the coins and THEN they'll give them away for free? Am I missing something here?

This is what they say:
We are pre-mining 4.5% of the total ziftrCOINs, 66.7% of which we will give away to consumers. In doing this, we hope that more consumers start to become familiar with cryptocurrency. To further achieve this goal, we are developing a mobile wallet that will hold all major types of cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin, Litecoin and ziftrCOIN.

Here's an update on the contest.

Looks like ZiftrCOINs presale fetched them some decent money - anyone else following the news?

Despite of the weird name they've managed to sell close to $1 million worth of coins, oh my.

What's wrong with the name?

The coin itself sounds ok, the name is kinda hard to pronounce.

Looks like the contest ends today.

I wonder if we'll see anything really interesting, not some obvious stuff.

Sounds like they're still accepting articles - I went for one of the smaller prizes and hope to win.

Smaller prizes are easier to win, problem is, they're smaller Wink

I sent my article, when a results are due, anyone?

Well if the new coin does not turn out to sell for 1 BTC each after presale, the first prize looks ok for a short article.

I think I'm game.

I think this guy is right: Vitalik Buterin, Author at Bitcoin Magazine responds:

Banking integration is the main challenge; businesses need ways to integrate Bitcoin efficiently and then immediately sell the bitcoins if they do not want to get exposed to the price volatility.

For Bitcoin to have value as a generally accepted payment method, two things need to happen:
It must be very easy to obtain bitcoins and it must be very easy (and cost effective) to use them to purchase a wide variety of goods.

Not bad, is it? I want a second prize at least.

Sort of too obvious for a prize.

I wonder why they sponsor a contest about bitcoins though, aren't they supposed to be promoting this new coin of theirs?

Well they are promoting it with this contest - it seems so at least.
