With few exceptions, the fabrication of integrated circuits, Bitcoin ASIC chips included, is done in the 'Orient' even if companies are from the 'Occident.'

No worries!  I think you may have triggered a new trend and revived an outdated word, lol.  But you know the west (Occident) get to start using "Oriental" again which has been taboo for decades. Grin

Reviving an old word would be the achievement of a lifetime! If you start using it, I thank you for your support Cheesy

Let's give it a try, shall we?

How's the weather over there in the Orient?  Over here in my part of the Occident it is windy but warm.  Smiley

Your occidental sense of humour is orienting a smile on my face!

Haha, I actually find that one good. Back to the OP, I think the world is big enough to have all sorts of players, the more the better for us buyers. That being said, it seems Chinese manufacturers are doing it better : they're cheaper, they have more inventory, AND they deliver, fast. Even I think some of the 'occidental' (I'm also not used to this particular word too but it's definitely legitimate)  manufacturers are having it made in China, so of course they can't compete with China's home grown companies, they have to ship back to their own countries then only to customers.

Who's Occident?  Never heard of them.

Well, my post applied to all the companies who make miners and are not located in Asia. KFC, Bitmine, etc.

Edit: KNC, not KFC Wink

You still didn't answer my question. Who's Occidental?

Edit:  oh I understand now!  Occident - countries of the west.  What an odd word to choose!  Is this more commonly used in the Far East when discussing western countries?

Sorry, I thought this was a common word! Yes it is often used where I am from. America is actually a lot closer to the east, so talking about western countries can be confusing, hence the use of Occident and Orient.

Edited the original post.

There will be 3 big winners I think:

Asicminer from Hong Kong
KNC from Sweden
Spondoolies from Israel.

But my question is, why? What's KNC's advantage over China's mass production capacities?

They have proven they have no problem with mass production. And since they will be using 20nm they will automatically have a 30% advantage.

Btw knc, asicminer, and most asics use the same chip fabricator which is tsmc.

I would put my money on KFC. They have by far the best chicken.

Occident and friedcat? What?

Friedcat (apparently the name is supposed to be a Chinese joke) is the owner of ASICMiner.

In the last month, we've seen a big increase in the mass production of Bitcoin miners from China: the 1Th Dragon, Friedcat who will release very performant miners in the next two weeks, of course Bitmain who seems to have an endless supply, Gridseed for scrypt, and the new Rockminer IPO who raised thousands of BTC for the production of miners.

China has many advantages in that market: easily adaptable factories, large pool of tireless workforce, interest in BTC from many entrepreneurs, and many good minds who can produce better chips and don't mind putting 80 hours of work a week to do so.

So I'm wondering, how will american and european miner makers be able to compete with this? They who are plagued with delays which will make costumer wary of them in the future and who will favour China instead. I don't see any advantage they have, other than perhaps a small advantage for innovativity.

P.S. Apologies if my english is bad. Also, this might be the wrong subforum.
