Hello,

I'm looking for a comprehensive list of companies/projects that either have been or still are active in the Bitcoin Ecosystem. I know there are some lists here on the forum, but most of them are just a sequence of names, without any further information.
Problem is, lists like this are getting old in matter of weeks, because bitcoin is such innovation, so many startups come and goes.
Some company accepting bitcoin? In matter of months they are stopping accepting bitcoin.

Everything changes very fast :|

Hey everyone,

I finally submitted my thesis, and thought I'd share it here with you guys: http://www.[Suspicious link removed]/XFsdzZ
The detailed network graphs for each year (2010-2015) can be found here in high resolution: http://www.[Suspicious link removed]/amHhox.

The resulting dataset consists of 514 projects and companies that have been active in the Bitcoin business ecosystem since 2010 included. At the moment, I plan to build a website with an interactive visualisation of the evolution of the ecosystem. The longitudinal dataset should be freely available for everyone and there should be a mechanism so that anyone can contribute to update or add data, thereby creating a comprehensive dataset of Bitcoin entities through collaboration with the community. Tell me what you think.

Have you passed the thesis task yet! It's awesome that you took something from bitcoin as your thesis.

Unfortunately the link has been market as "Suspicious link removed" so if you can write it with whitespaces like w w w . or any other (redirect) link

Oh thanks for pointing out, I didn't realise that.

The "suspicious" part is actually just "g o o. g l". So the thesis link should be w w w. g o o . g l/XFsdzZ and the network graphs should be found at w w w. g o o. g l/amHhox.

Edit: If you don't want to read the entire thesis, have a look at the pinned tweet from my Twitter profile, the main graphs and tables are highlighted in a small "twitter storm". Link: https://twitter.com/mrauchs

I can say that your master thesis an awesome work, and was enjoying reading few paragraphs of it.

And it's good to see that you mentioned also the bitcointalk forum as a good source to learn about bitcoin, so far whats your next goal?

Thank you very much Smiley I'm planning to build a website with an interactive visualisation based on the dataset I collected, with a sort of built-in update/append mechanism so that everyone can add or update data. The goal is to collaborately maintain and extend a comprehensive dataset of the Bitcoin business ecosystem, and visually display it so that it can serve as entry point for newcomers to the Bitcoin space and provide valuable information on specific entities for anyone interested (it's possible to basically add any data to each entity). I'm currently trying to figure out how to exactly accomplish this, so any help is greatly appreciated Smiley

I don't know how can I help but you should need to make a list what is needed for this website so the designers and coders will know what will look like.

What I can contribute is giving suggestions which can improve the user interface or user experience, so alright people can add or update data but should be moderated or at least after a specific time (like full member in here forum) can add or update data without moderated by admin.

Yes you're right; I started working full-time on it 2-3 months ago, and it's a real pain in the ass to get all the data (especially to find the dates of new product/service launches and so on). Moreover, I needed to develop a framework (some sort of service categorization) of the ecosystem to analyse the emergence of new sectors and market segments over the years. This framework is of course constantly adapted during the research process, it's really fascinating to see the countless applications that have seen the light in recent years.

So far, I managed to include some 350 companies/projects in the database with "full" information (at least the minimum data I need for my analysis, which so far are the foundation date, launch date of each product/service in case they are diversifying, geographic location, funding, possible mergers & acquisitions, as well as the "exit date" and the reason of the firm going out of business). The main sources are the company's websites (difficult if they are out of business for several years), company blogs, news articles, bitcointalk forum, reddit posts, linkedin, twitter etc.

It's a really time-consuming project, but also incredibly exciting since it gives fascinating insights in the development of the ecosystem. So although it's a lot of work and sometimes annoying, the experience so far has been really worth it (and I hope it will be useful for other people too once it will be published).

It's a neat idea but I think you will find it's going to be hard to do this for all.  You might make sure to list "Public" or something in front.   There is just a LOT of operations I consider more secreative that finding info on is pretty much impossible.

I love mining so a lot of the mining operations I try to follow.  Fact is a ton of secrecy in a lot of the operations.  So certain categories like miners, are going to be hard to get all the info.   Other categories such as companies that provide services are going to be much easier to provide as much more open.

There's a list of bitcoin-related and bitcoin-accepting businesses in the wiki. Not sure how up-to-date it is though.

This one is really interesting, thanks! Although I'm more looking for companies that are part of the Bitcoin Ecosystem in the sense that they not only accept bitcoins such as simple merchants, but provide a product/service that is based on a particular application based on the Bitcoin Protocol.

Nice and up-to-date. Thanks for this. At the end of the page it's written "This page was modified on 22 Feb, 2016" so it proves that it is up to date. Smiley

Have you already searched on pages like bitpages.co or whotakescoin.com?
They are listing a good range of Bitcoin-related and -accepting sites.

your quote has provided good information about the bitcoin related listing. I have never used any websites accepting bitcoins. With this suggestion I can have a try. You know anything about the charges levied for transaction.

Hello,

I'm looking for a comprehensive list of companies/projects that either have been or still are active in the Bitcoin Ecosystem. I know there are some lists here on the forum, but most of them are just a sequence of names, without any further information.

I'm currently building a database of the Bitcoin ecosystem (2009-2015) and have around 320 companies so far with the basic information that's available (so mainly: location, foundation date, launch date of each product, exit date/bankruptcy; but also M&A, Funding if applicable). It took me 2 months to gather the basic information about those companies, and it's really a pain in the ass Smiley

So if there's a list (or even several) available that has a little more informationt than only the company name, I'd be really grateful if someone could give me a hint (or even better a link!)

Thank you in advance!
