this is a joke right???
are you ducking serious???
Jalapeno??? Really??? Red-fury for couple of hundred bucks??? really???

LOL

You are aware how difficulty is high?Huh
you are aware that right now 60gh ASIC is considered worthless???
Jalapeno and red fury are nothing else but peace of history so throwing couple of hundred dollars on them doesn't make any sense.

Not anymore worthless than mining with graphics cards. LOL.

But yeah, kinda joking.

 Grin

What are you talking about?
With gpu-s you can still earn anything by mining doge or something else on multipool.
With 5-10-30 or even 60gh you can't earn ANYTHING!!!
You are limited to BTC mining only and diff is sky high.

Well then buddy you're doing something seriously wrong.

Have a look at some of the GPU hashing speeds for Bitcoin. You can see they are marked as "Mhash/s" then go down to 7970 and you will see they can go up to 825MH/s with proper cooling.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#AMD_.28ATI.29

ok, guess your right.

omg someone on the intarwebs admitted the other person was right. technically they didn't say that they were wrong, but it's close.
In case anyone missed what's going on here- SHA-256 can be hashed at a much higher hash rate with GPU's in comparison to the Scrypt algorithm.
So while a 7970 can hit 700Mhashes crunching the SHA-256 code, the same 7970 will only hash around 700Khashes when crunching the Scrypt stuff.

The point is kinda moot tho, as 700MHashes is a drop in the bucket...or more like a drop in the ocean, for bitcoin. Although 700Khashes is still somewhat useful for mining lower difficulty scrypt coins (doge maybe?)
If you get 16 of those 700Khash cards running you can make a nice $1500 profit on a month of mining LTC, depending on your power costs...

Just really interesting to see the "guess your right"
I don't care what they say about you Bobsurplus. you're ok by me.

Its funny eh??

I have mined BTC before, I actually bought a first batch avalon wayyyy back when.. I have never mined btc with GPU's and I have now go on to build a small GPU farm to mine LTC with.

Excuse me if I may be inaccurate in my beliefs but I was just going on the info provided to me through

If you want to mine BTC with graphics cards, and you don't care about electricity, that's fine too.

You need to go to www.coinish.com and enter your Mh/s and see how much you get.

I think CGminer stopped supporting graphics cards for BTC mining at about version 3.7.2 -ish, so you need an earlier version of CGminer or whatever other miner you want to use.

But, 2 x 7950's mining BTC will yield 0.00022924 coins per day, which is $0.19 (and burn about $1000 in power in 12 months).

You're better off buying a Jalepeno, or some red-fury's off E-bay and mess around with those for a couple of hundred bucks.

Even if you have free power, the graphics cards create heat, which even though it's winter now, at some point, you'll have to cool the room once the weather gets warm. And, fans running at full power are usually annoying.

At least you'll learn something about mining, looking at the bright side.

Wrong about what exactly? Have you ever mined BTC with GPU's? They hash in MH/s, not KH/s.

I know this, I can mine with my GPU's  for bitcoin but from what I can see my 10.5MH is only really 0.105GH

Yes... over 2Ghs for BITCOIN hashing. You must have problems understanding things.

Again, if you actually cared to READ, you would see I was referring to Bitcoin mining at 2.8Gh/s. Each card does well over 700Mh/s.

Let me break that down for you;

4 X 700 = 2800Mh/s

2800Mh/s can also be shows as 2.8Gh/s because 1000MH (rounded down) is a the same as 1GH.

Do I need to break down the process for you some more?

Also, if you cared to read, you should see that I went on to say that they are currently being used to mine LTC, meaning they are no longer being used to mine BTC, and I never mentioned the hashing speed of LTC mining so please don't make another bullsh!t post.

In any case, I am currently running at 7,200KH/s (approx. 7.2Mh/s) for LTC.

I still think you're wrong. I have 10500KHs, which is mining LTC, it is 10.5MHs and 0.0105GHs.

Am I wrong? I got this info from bitcoinwisdom, here is a link: http://bitcoinwisdom.com/litecoin/difficulty

How about some of you guys EXPLAIN to the guy WHY it is that he can't, rather then just laughing at the guy? He's obviously new to the game. I understand there are plenty of places where he could've gathered the necessary information, but really, no reason to act like douches.

As for the questions:

You cannot build a computer that will hash at such a high rate. The best you could do is build a computer with some high end GPU's that will maybe get you about 2-4GH/s. That will earn you about $1 a day (likely less), and cost you maybe $2 a day, so it's not a good idea. Bitcoin mining is only left for ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuit). If you want a bitcoin miner, you can try to buy an AntMiner (www.bitmaintech.com but they are currently on holiday in China untill Feb 5th.)

If you want to get into the game of mining, you can try LiteCoin mining, which you can still due currently with GPU's.

There are plenty of information that can be found on this forum, please have a look around, and remember, the search box is your friend.

what GPU gives you 2-4GHs??

HAHAHAHAHAHAH

If you cared to read, you would see that I typed "GPU's", as in more then ONE. I used to run 4 MSI Radeon HD 7970 OC, which would give me about 2.8GH/s. They are currently being used to mine LTC now, along with 8 other cards.

Either I'm high as shit or something is wrong here....

4 7970's wont come close to 2.8GHss... Maybe you mean MHs?!?

You can mine litecoin or other alt coins with PC and graphics card (look for AMD ones with the high number of stream processors)...

..see www.p2pool.org for a list of coins..

..but Bitcoin requires ASIC hardware now to beat electrical costs.

Lightyear69,

It used to be that computers were used to mine bitcoins, but now that's not done anymore. Those were the days of a couple of years ago.

Up until maybe August of 2013, you could still use graphics cards to mine, but those took a huge amount of power, and they became not profitable once ASICs (application specific integrated circuits) came out.

You can still use computers and GPUs (graphics cards) to mine what are called scrypt based miners, like Litecoin and other scrypt based coins, but you need pretty powerful graphics card, like 4-5 if you want to get anywhere with that, and a beefy power supply to boot.

As an example, I run 2x7950's in one computer for Litecoin mining (get about 1.1 Mh/s with both, it's a small setup with a 750 W power supply). You can't really put more than 2 of those cards with the case closed, because of the heat they generate and dissipate (200 Watts each, 400 watts total power to dissipate).

Most people who run many (4-5) graphics cards have open air rigs with powerful fans blowing on them and increased spacing between graphics cards so they do not burn each other up. I have not personally gone that route, mainly due to space and safety (kid) concerns.

As for bitcoin mining, to get to 400-600 Gh/s, you need some powerful miners, like several AntMiners, or a bunch of Singles, or a few newer Avalons, and burly power supplies.

My recommendation would be to start small, do not burn a lot of money, and configure any existing hardware you have to mine some litecoins, or maybe get a cheap ASIC off E-bay. Some of the older generation ASICs have come down in price. (like maybe a Jalepeno or Little Single). Or, get a redfury USB miner and run that for a bit.

Hope this helps.

As I mentioned that the big plus for me is that i need not to worry about electricity bill.

You rightly said and I agree that its better starting slow and I would be content to make anything about $500 or more/month. Having said that, At the moment I am only interested to mine through using computer only.

As you said-I run 2x7950's in one computer for Litecoin mining (get about 1.1 Mh/s with both, it's a small setup with a 750 W power supply). You can't really put more than 2 of those cards with the case closed, because of the heat they generate and dissipate (200 Watts each, 400 watts total power to dissipate).

How much $ one will be able to mine having above set up i.e. 1.1 Mh/s?

Your piece of writing really very helpful, Thank a ton for that!

You got it right that I am pretty new to this market. And its fine if people laugh at me  Smiley

I am determined to get into mining for a particular reason that I have no issues with electricity bills and not bothered about that, So, That's a big plus for me if i get into mining.

But since I am pretty new into the game and am non tech guy, so its taking little time to understand all.

Thanks so much for taking time to write up.

Since it is relatively much easier for me to assemble a computer with a certain hardware specifications, I would like to know if 300-600 GH/s hashing possible with perhaps a high end computer? If yes, what configuration is required like ram, processor, graphic card etc. Not interested for ASIC, so looking for some alternates, less hashing is also fine. (Please exclude electricity consumption, I am aware about it).

ummmmmmm it is possible, the only problem is pigs dont fly yet.

For 300GH/s you will need 100,000 3 GHz Intel or AMD cores of recent vintage, plus a lot of additional money to power is as the power consumption will be so high that it will operate at an almost complete loss.

Cheers.
