I don't think so, maybe advancing with mining technology will help Bitcoin with energy efficiency and mining power for less space. Every 2 years technology provides twice power for a half size...

Computers made with fiber optic connections, could they make mining  bitcoins much faster??

AFAIK, these technology are far from being commercialized.
Ideally they have enormous potential, but there are too much technological bottlenecks for them to be commercialized.

Hmm wouldn't know for certain guess it could be a Quantum in terms of increasing overall CPU speed.
Not sure it could outcompete an ASIC in processing even with this power up unless they applied it to ASIC tech then that would be fascinating.
Aside from that neat stuff I like Li-Fi tech myself in new tech but a faster computer means more things can be done so I'm for it Smiley.

“Having a chip the size of your fingernail that can deliver a terabit per second changes the way you can think about design,” says Paniccia. Such chips could make a big difference inside the sprawling data centers operated at great expense by Web giants like Google, Microsoft, and Facebook. “Data centers today are big piles of copper–that imposes the limits on how you arrange components inside a server,” Paniccia says.

That and Immersion Cooling and Decentralized Storage (maidsafe) are ways to transmit and make data low cost in the future gotta love innovation.

Reading the comments learnt this is in the field of Silicon Photonics so learnt something myself today.
