#1 What are the Homeless supposed to to with a obscure cryptocurrency?
#2 Who is supposed to oversee the donation process?
#3 Nobody here is interested in charity.

#1 - the donations would be converted to fiat and donated to charity as already explained.
#2 - I explained this already. The donation address would track the donations, and the website would show where the funds are going
#3 - Don't know if I should laugh or cry at this comment. So let's say people aren't interested in charity because they are ruled by greed (I doubt everyone is this warped). However, the +greed angle is that the positive publicity of the "charity" would put a positive light on cryptocurrency. Thereby increasing the public's interest in the *crypto currencies, and overall increasing value of all coins. Net result everyone wins, even the greedy ones.

Hi all,

I've been thinking recently about how to improve bitcoin (and altcoins) reputation. Outside of these forums most people either don't understand bitcoins or think folks involved in bitcoins are greedy, shady, or just plain up to no good. My concept is to come up with a coin that gives back to society. Bsically it would be a regular coin except a % of the coin would be donated to a pool. This pool would be used to give back, buy clothes/food for homeless, donate to charity, etc.. People could also donate directly to the pool if they wish. Else they can use it as an investment vehicle. All transactions to the pool (like up to 10 fixed addresses) would be permanently available in the block chain. The donations themselves would be tracked through an online website. The website also could be used to determine where donations could go. Perhaps giving "votes" to GIVECOIN owners based on the # of shares they own.

It likely would start with one of the newer coins like primecoin, quarkcoin, etc.. that are CPU friendly.

What do folks think of this concept? Is there a better way to go about doing this?
