In your bitcoin.conf, you don't have to include bitcoind. To addnodes, you just have to put

addnode=(IP)
.

If the bottleneck is the verification of blocks(likely), you probably won't get much gain. Also, Bitcoin Core only allows up to 8 outbound connections.
