Same as solo mining on the regular network - you have to set up your bitcoin daemon correctly on the testnet network instead. Read the section on solo mining in the cgminer readme, though you need mining hardware to mine with, not just the controlling software.

Great! Thanks for your advice. I thought about this at first, but I really wasn't sure about it. I have all the mining equipment I need to begin testing with testnet coins. Just in case, I will make more research about it to learn more of the process.  Cheesy

You can't simply put testnet and mine, it works like the regular mining.
You can try and find a pool that mines on testnet and point your miners to it.
ck used to run a solo pool for testnet mining but he corrected me not too long ago that he shut it down and it cannot be used anymore. You should try finding something similar.

Thanks for your advice. I will see what I can find in order to mine testnet Bitcoins, in regard to a mining pool. Since difficulty should be lower than mainnet, it would allow me to test a few miners and get some test coins along the way.  Smiley

Just asking how it is really done since it is a little confusing to me, now that it would be my first time to set up testnet mode from within Bitcoin Core. When configuring CGminer, or a similar mining software, what do I need to do for the miners to begin mining testnet coins? Also, will it be compatible with normal mining pools, or is there one specific for testnet?

Wondering how it could be done, I thought it was all about placing my testnet into the mining pool configuration, but I am not so sure it would do the trick. Anyone tried this?  Huh
