Yeah, restoring from a backup isn't necessary. It will switch to "0/unconfirmed" once you're connected to the network again ("offline" means you were offline at the time of the send). Then it will be included normally.

Don't restart Bitcoin. That resets the resend timer.

The offline message means no one so far received that transaction from you. Your client will keep sending it (a few times per hour, typically), so just leave it running and make sure you are connected. Once the transaction is out on the network, it should soon end up in a block, at which point it will start being confirmed.

Also, please change the title of the post - mtgox has nothing to do with this.

And I request that you edit your original post and change the title "MtGox scam".  MtGox did not cause this.  Save the alarm bells for a future time in case MtGox really does cause problems.

I suggest you do what casascius said AFTER you download all the missing blocks if this is still not resolved and transaction doesn't appear to be in http://bitcoincharts.com/bitcoin/.

I have had this happen before.  What does this mean anyway?  Does this mean the client is continuing to broadcast the transaction?

When I had this happen previously, the transaction basically disappeared.  I had plenty of connections, because it was in the middle of downloading blocks.  It also switched to 0/unconfirmed when I restarted the client.  However, I had a wallet backup from immediately before the transaction, so once I felt certain the transaction wasn't going to show up, I restored the backup, restored the block chain, resent the coins.  I lost no coins in the process, the balance shown after recovery was correct.

What exactly is the problem? Just because it says "offline" doesn't mean it won't be broadcasted. Anyway, this has nothing to do with mtgox, it's your client that's screwing things up.

Are you sure? Doesn't it mean if it is offline it is not in existent? it has been this way for 30 minutes.
no, every valid address "exists" (it might not belong to anyone (yet), but it's there). Try adding fallback nodes or checking upnp support to get more connections. Also, you're missing 1000 blocks or so. I don't know if transactions can be broadcasted before you have all blocks but you won't see any conformations until those are downloaded, that's for sure.

Have you contacted Mt. Gox/MagicalTux?

Yes, no reply... At all. I'm pissed cause I was about to trade for USD and make some $.

Edit: Took me a few weeks to get these bitcoins. I'm forever sad.
