5 months? Okay, I knew that PayPal is viable for chargebacks for up to half a year, but I didn't think that someone would really do that at the last minute and get away with it...

Strange.

PayPal Gifts are only disputable for a 45 day time period or 90 days on my transactions.
Most scams i have seen circumvent that by charging back on their cc used to fund pp. I have seen normal bank account backed pp accounts be charged back on 9 months later. Happened to me and it was virtual goods on a project long since finished, and i was out 2700.

may not have been a gift?

It matters a lot if it were sent as a gift or not. But no these were payments they were not sent as a gift. It is much harder to charge back girt payments. For one you cant say item not received and second if it was sent from your home ip address you cant charge it back.

Update... So this little dick charged back 5 months after he bought then claimed it was a mistake and that he was going to fix it.. big surprise he lied.

He never called or did anything then started ignoring our messages.. so it was left to paypal to make a judgement on it.  I was shocked but they ruled in our favor.

I got the funds back!! thanks paypal!

Glad there was a good outcome.  But it's gonna be pretty hard to win a judgment 5 months out... Even if it is paypal!

I love facebook... the power of public shame. It looks like he is going to cancel the charge back. He claims it was a mistake.. I dont doubt that it was a mistake to steal from people who know your family, but who knows maybe it was an "accident".. I am awaiting the claim cancellation. I will up date the post when it has been confirmed.

I will keep you posted john. it was jan 26 when he purchased.

Seriously, what was the reason he gave for the chargeback to work? Did he really say that the item/gift was missing after 5 months and thus requesting the chargeback? Shocked
