I think there is also exchanges in other things, uniswap and all are exchanges too, so it constantly changes, and some exchanges gets delisteed all the time as well, combine all of that together and you end up with the differences. I think it is not really that important, doesn't matter how many exchanges there are after probably the first 100, because others are just focusing on the lower coins to get customers.

We all know those places, that list very very low coins, like not even 3 bitcoin per day volume type of coins, even the ones that get like 50-200 dollars per day volume coins, they are all listed somewhere. And those exchanges should not be listed neither on coingecko nor coinmarketcap, but unfortunately that is one part of crypto world so it gets listed. At the end of the day we are talking about crypto here and these differences are totally expected.

Honestly that number is not anymore relevant, they can list all the exchanges but I'm pretty sure, only 10 or 20 exchanges are being used by traders and investors in the crypto space. I'm glad you see that disparity or something, but as I was saying, numbers are not necessary for me.

As for me, I mostly check on CMC than this site, more reliable IMO.

Eh? Those 46 exchanges can easily be found beside "Spot" exhange tab when you click the linked number on the tab panel of the site.

Exactly what I feared — they're counted twice as I can see those exchanges again. But thanks all the same for the link.

To know the numbers of exchanges in total is not necessary, what is necessary is to make use of legit exchanges.
Well, I do take accuracy and sacrosanctness of data into account. They matter and are necessary in determining the true face of things. Remember that facts are sacrosanct and should always remain so.

Charles-Tim, whether the Coingecko site owner thought any exchange was fraudulent or not shouldn't have made them not to tally the number to what they put out there on Coingecko. Except there is something else the site is trying to tell that I don't know as a layman here. It worries me that other data may not also be accurate and this is my concern. If whatever that has happened is a glitch, I hope it's fixed quickly.
To know the numbers of exchanges in total is not necessary, what is necessary is to make use of legit exchanges. Also like you commented, it is very possible that the total number of their cryptocurrencies listed is not accurate, but dealing with good coins like Bitcoin is mostly important and the good coins are on top of the list. The total data is not necessary so far the good ones are the ones listed above.

Could you please give me the list or link of these 46 exchanges that make up the tally if that won't be any problems for you.
Spot and Derivative market are totally different to each other especially on how their respective trade works. Perhaps that's the reason why they are being separated by coingecko.

coingecko data IMO inferor to CMC I mean when I tried to use their API there are many nulled datas or empty data you can check it yourself and compare it to CMC data though coingecko api is kinda free so that's the advantage so maybe the data conflict within their website could be caused by exchange count not matching total exchange data in their "real" content (maybe hardcoded) that's displayed within their website content table but there's just too much factor that can cause this actually so that's just my guess.
IMO you should just follow the data displayed by the exchange table and call it a day.

Spot just like what you have mentioned, it has a total of 375 exchanges from both categories of Centralize and Decentralized. On the other hand, the Derivatives exchange category has a total of 46 which makes an overall number of 421 as expected.
If that be the case why then are exchanges offering Derivatives counted as separate? I know Binance offers something like that, does that mean Binance is counted twice? This is getting not cleared up for me. Could you please give me the list or link of these 46 exchanges that make up the tally if that won't be any problems for you.

whatever that has happened is a glitch, I hope it's fixed quickly.
As I see it. This is not a glitch on their end. Coingecko which has a total number of 421 exchanges listed on the top panel is accurate. The 421 includes the exchanges from both "Spot" and "Derivative" exchange.

I have checked this out and saw what you provided to be right, that is just an error on coingecko, the total listed are 375 exchanges. Also know that the exchnges listed are the ones that they approved to be legit and not scam, like on Coinmarketcap, the total exchanges listed are 349 exchanges which is lesser than the total listed on coingecko. The listed exchnges total differs from sites to sites while each have creteria before listing exchanges. And, for this, I will prefer to make use of coinmarketcap which has less amount of exchanges listed on their platform.

Before today, I had believed that the total number of exchanges listed on the Coingecko site were just the way as written out until I crosschecked that today. I few days ago, it recorded 419 as the number of exchanges listed and then today I saw 421 and that set my curiosity in motion as I felt the need to find out the two newly listed exchanges. However, what I saw when I checked got me thinking if every other information on the site or other crypto sites like it are often accurate. The total number according to the check revealed 375 exchanges as against the 421 up there. Now I ask, what could be responsible for the conflicting data? Is it just me or any other person has observed such discrepancies?
