Hi there experts,

I have EVGA SuperNOVA 850 P5 Power Supply, 80 PLUS Platinum PSU and currently running with single RTX 3070. I would like to connect 5 more GPUs so that I could run 6 GPUs in total.

Is it possible to connect 6 GPUs to the EVGA SuperNOVA 850?

Other question is, PSU spec says it has 6 x PCIe sockets but I can only see 4 marked as VGA. Any particular reason ?

Thanks,
It's good that you read the documentation.

If the video cards only have an 8-pin power connector, then you can connect it, but I strongly advise against doing this.
Better buy an additional power supply and connect 4 GPUs and mobo to your power supply and 2 other video cards to another power supply unit.

Thank you all for all the advice.

You are correct @philipma1957. I had a look at the box and there were 2 split cables which makes it in total 6 VGA connections. I honestly thought 6 PCIe means 6 sockets. Anyway, I can only connect max 4 GPUs as per all the recommendations which means I need to use a second PSU.

I'm going to limit the number of GPUs to maximum of 4 for one PSU. I will buy another PSU and connect the remaining GPUs to that one. I can connect the power supply tester (bridge connector) to power on the second PSU.

if you had a corsair rm1000x it has six jacks which can use pcie or cpu wires.  it could do 5 pcie and 1 cpu but you would need to buy a spare pcie cable

It would do 5 x 130 = 650 +40 mobo = 690 watts out of 1000 which is okay

has the 6 jacks so ti could do 5 gpus' you need to get a spare cable

the EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 p has the six jacks for pcie and 2 for cpu they do not interchange but it would work

Your biggest issue here is going to be with those split PCIe cables. I guarantee you that the one which is closer to the PSU is going to melt at the +12V pins.

Most PSUs that I had with these series split type of PCIe connectors always melted. It was also the plug closest to the PSU and was always the +12V pins.

No idea why they have such a bad design.

Not good idea running on single 850w 6 3070. beacause 6 3070 will consume 780watts plus 50-70w mobo etc. it is way too much. if it was rx6600 then ok 6.
You will kill that PSU with that load. 4 3070 i will connect not more if you want your PSU live more.

maximum this psu can handle within safety range is 4, don't push it, if it was a 1000w then 5 would be alright.

Thanks,

okay if you have 6 3070s it will over tax the psu.

it does have two vga cables with 1 gpu jack so that is two pcie jacks
it does have two vga cables with 2 gpu jacks so that is four pcie jacks

grand total of 4 cables with 6 plugs

if you are running 3070s most likely you can do four if they use single plugs some do.

the nvidia 3070 has 1 eight pin jack and can be set to 130 watts four is 520 watts and 30 more you are at 550 watts with with mobo. 550/850 is safe and will work
