Say you're paying for a 'service' or a 'host' - what you're paying for doesn't matter, apply that part to something that interests you.
Now my question:
Would you prefer to pay a larger 'fee' ONCE prior to usage and have unlimited access until you leave?
OR
Pay a much smaller fee but be charged for each time you use the service/host.
Keep in mind this is something that would have to interest you otherwise you wouldn't be there to begin with.
Thanks!
Depends on what it is.
If you rent a dedicated server, option 1 would be totally awesome but not maintainable for the service provider.
For MMOs I prefer the subscribtion model because it allows for the game developer/publisher to plan ahead and invest their monthly income into the game instead of squeezing as much as possible out of the game and then dropping it.
For an Internet connection I prefer a flat rate (for volume AND speed - in Germany some companies offer "flat rates" which technically offer an unlimited volume for you to download, but will slow down your connection to an unacceptable speed once you downloaded a certain amount of data [which is rly low, usually between 500mb and 5gb]).
For a phone line I prefer to get charged per use.
For hotels I prefer to only pay for breakfast if I actually take it. I really dislike breakfast being included in the hotel price.
For new services I am trying out I prefer to pay per use since I don't want to commit in case I don't like the service.
