It's still best that you have that confirmation from Bitcointalk and also in Telegram. Thank you for sharing this OP. It might not be just about when auctions are happening, it could in be other stuff as well.

Right after winning an auction I was contacted by "minerjones" on Telegram to congratulate me...

this also happened to me once and i was contacted by a 'supposed' minerjones. of course i ignored the whole message and deleted it immediately and it was also bad for the scammer that i had already shared some messages with the real minerjones, so i was able to identify him correctly.
maybe minerjones should make his real telegram username public here, so that no users fall for all the scammers...

Sure.. but people still need to be weary, as something simple as someone using a "0" versus an "o"  for a name like "min0rj0nes" or maybe adding an "s" to the end, which I have seen Tongue
Or they add a period at the end or a space....

My username and account name are both the same:  @minerjones
Same as here.....   Cheesy

I would like to add that there are symbols in other languages with a totally different ascii code that can look the same as the letters we are used to in English. There are probably plenty of @minerjones permutations.

Generally speaking it’s good practice to be a slight nuisance and double check by requesting a bitcointalk dm from the correct username id to verify. Did this with liquid and a few others before trusting external bitcointalk communication.

thanks for posting about this.

funny that the scammers keep up with the Telegram scam even though I never contact people there about auction wins Tongue

I'll probably just start posting the payment address in auction post and help prevent this from continuing

EDIT: to add, if there is zero conversation history and "minerjones" contacts you, It's a scammer.

Don't know the handle since he deleted the convo right after he failed to prove himself, but he even knew how real mj sends DMs with PGP signature.

Be careful guys.
