Oh wow, I didn't notice that option exists at all now.

I must say this looks like a too good trolling opportunity to pass up.
e: false alarm it seems this is only granted individually for people with actual authority in their field.

I remember joking about self-moderated threads in off-topic a while back, thinking all the time it was a joke thread. Now I've learnt it's the real deal. Strange!

Why is there an option to create a new self moderated thread (for me in mining software) but there is no way to convert an existing thread to one?
If an existing thread could be converted into a self-moderated topic, there's no point even distinguishing the two. Disallowing conversion allows potential posters to know whether or not the hour of writing they spent could be wasted if OP disagrees with the opinion expressed.
