I forgot to mention that I mean pruned sync.

My understanding is that a pruned node reduces the amount of space required but it does not reduce the time it takes to sync.

If I understand it correct, if you don't replace wallet.dat before pruned syncing, you will need to sync all over again after replacing wallet.dat.
Is that correct?

Since afaik you have an old wallet, yes, that is correct. That's why is important to put the correct wallet.dat in place earliest possible.
Of course, Bitcoin Core must not be running at that point, you better restart computer or check the list of processes before copying wallet.dat.

Maybe this helps too:

About pruned sync node:

"You have to resync your wallet with blockchain if you import a wallet.dat file that contains data synchronised outside the data stored in your prune node. This is very annoying, IMO"

Yes it does matter (but only speed wise).

Replace the wallet first before syncing for the fastest amount of time to sync.

I have Core on old PC and want to move it to new PC.
I am going just to set up new Core on new PC and replace wallet.dat with the old one.
But when to sync?
Does it matter when to sync the Core on new PC?
i.e.
First sync new Core, then replace its wallet.dat with the old one.
or
First replace its wallet.dat with the old one, then sync.
What goes first? Or it doesn't matter?

Do I understand things correct that it DOES MATTER?
First replace wallet.dat, then sync.
And this is the only option.
Is it so?
