You are right in saying that it will reduce the number of deaths because it is contagious and contacting people if the school is closed and the virus is less likely to get out of the house. Everyone knows that nothing will stop forever They have been postponed only for a temporary period.
The forcing of people to stay home has in fact given the world a "breath", i think the virus alone lowered CO2 emissions far more than decades of empty politician promises.
And in some places like New York, it even increased bicycle use. The NASA images of polluted china and clear sky china (without and with quarantine) are astounding.
Commuting is a big factor in world pollution, and this has forcibly lowered it (by fear, no less).
In USA home schooling is legal. You don't actually need to send your kids to school if you are afraid of shootings and whatnot. Sadly it is not legal in many other countries.
Teleworking is possible in many fields, all you need is set up a room for an office at home and take family discipline to respect working hours (some people use a separate nearby shed building barn whatever).
Entertainment is long done. Not just streaming, but gaming and virtual reality. Even so occasional outdoor activities are recommended, if only for relax or sport, when the crisis is over. Since you are staying at home you exercise less, so its even more reason to go leisurely out; and besides you are gaining extra time from that commute you are not doing anymore.
"Life finds a way" is not a fictional movie cliché, but a Chernobyl wildlife reality (humans removed, wildlife blossomed. Sometimes very sick and mutated, but thriving).
