Actually direct democracy seems to be working fine in Switzerland since ages. Yes they are voting a lot, I guess they are learning a lot to be able to form an opinion about the ongoing stuff, so it's certainly a lot of fuss, but it's working for them, they are still in control. On the other hand our comfortable representative democracy... well it's everything but democracy :/

Good, politicians who can't be bothered and just want a career doing nothing should fuck off, that's why I like the idea of Direct Democracy so much, it would mean they would actually have to explain the laws they put out, you'll find a lot of the time politicians don't even read the laws they've been given because it's been written by lobby groups that have paid them to vote.

Well said. So perhaps in our lifetimes nothing will change while enough people are comfortable and we currently seem to have limited better options - bitcoin is not even "ready" or tempting enough as yet to mainstream for example.  It could take another 20 years to take control of our own money then next up we have energy companies and want ever else to battle.

Direct democracy is not ideal either. You cannot vote on everything there is to do and some time later many people would ignore voting. Political parties wouldn't give up and they would try to convince everybody to tier point of view, so there would be constant agitation and manipulation of information. People would vote on those solutions which would be promoted by their beloved parties.

Ok then. If the system is dying what else do You propose? don't vote? that won't change anything. Democratic system is far from being righteous or perfect but what better solution is there? anarchy? that's even worse.

They are certainly, but the thing is it shouldn't be the case, they're desperate to try and prop up a dying system that they're responsible for and proceed to pester the average voter with condascending and patronising catch phrases and want these people to validate their existence by voting for them.

Problem is, everyone is catching onto their bullshit now and refuse to go along with it so they're using more and more ridiculous tactics to try and get our attention.

Don't get me wrong guys but I think you are overreacting in this. You don't need to see conspiracy theory everywhere and you don't need to search for another plot being made. Sometimes things just happens and there is no one behind it. As for corporations reminding to vote, they probably  are being paid by government to promote up coming elections... And that's all

The paradox of elections is that on one hand they tell you "if you don't vote you won't change anything and have no right to complain later" but deep inside you know that the outcome has already been decided and your vote won't change anything.

Corporations exist solely because the state grants them the title; this should be the only association you need to see why one would advocate the other.  It's a mutually beneficial relationship they share; the greater the reach of the political force, the greater the reach of the corporation.  It doesn't matter who you vote for, all that matters is that you believe in the political system, that, if you can just get the right people in charge, the world will be fixed; this further enables the corporation to eliminate competitors and get closer to monopoly status.

Of course, the reality is, the idea of a republic is millennia old with no innovations and the same flaws that plagued so many republics of the past are plaguing the republics of today, the issue being: elected officials abuse their power for personal benefit until either the republic is overthrown or the nation is weakened enough by the political leeches to get conquered by a stronger political force.  The only people the elected officials answer to are the voters, and if the voters ever believe they can't change things without the political process, it's game over: the political process is believed necessary to existence and to overthrow even a heavily corrupted government is understood to be suicide.  Boom: the door for abuse slams against the wall with a crack and the evil flows right the fuck in.

It's an abusive relationship; say there's this girl with this guy, and the guy says, if she ever leaves him, she'll be nothing, she'll be dead, she can't leave him no matter how badly he treats her because the alternative is non-existence.  And things aren't all that bad, you see; she still gets fed, entertained, and has a roof over her head, which beats starving and living out in the wild.  So why change?  She's comfortable, the beatings aren't all that bad, and who knows what'll happen if she leaves?  Maybe there really is nothing out there, maybe she will starve or die without her man; maybe she really is worthless without him, as he keeps telling her.  When you believe your entire existence is dependent on just this one person, you will stick with them, no matter what.  That's why things are so bad today: societies are the broads with black eyes who won't leave states bearing stained wife-beaters; everyone, EVERYONE knows this situation is fucked up, at least on some level of consciousness, but nobody's doing anything about it: they're comfortable.

I tend to be paranoid about politicians and corporations . Companies are probably donating to all major parties through some individuals to avoid drawing too much attention from the public and this way they can buy seats for their agents in the "independent" and party advisory boards. So I think voting is just the circus for the people.

Is anyone else uncomfortable with private companies reminding us to vote.

What has it got to do with them if we vote or not it is a public matter surely.  It would make more sense if they suggested voting for a certain party.  Proof that your vote is meaningless?

Im thinking voting for whoever justifys more state force vs public in general which also benefits corporations more vs if u didnt vote.

The system needs changing, voting reinforces it, dont vote.
